Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Not sure a reball is something that can be done without a BGA station. @Vince will be able to confirm I hope!

It can be done but really you would want to pre heat the board and then use a full infrared bga rework station to get the chip uniform hot for removal and putting it back on... These boards can take so much heat that just a rework station isn't going to work well, the likely outcome is damaging the board beyond repair before you even get the chip off.

Ok, interesting. If nothing else I'll try and get to the point where it attempts to boot, and if it has the issue at least practice removing the beasty. It's disposable in that respect. I've got a controller on the way which I'd like to practice refreshing, as I have a Logitech F710 that needs the same. It's getting on a bit and has been kept running with regular cleans etc, but now needs a refresh.

Controller description says this:

All works fine but left thumb stick doesn't recenter.
Both thumb sticks are damaged as shown.

Damage is the rubber on the joystick has been half ripped off.

I have a repair kit coming for that from ebay 2x green analog sticks + 2 rubber caps £4.99

As luck would have it the speedo and rev needles on my XF Sportbrake had given up, making seeing at night tricky. So, I have some new LEDs on order and I get to practice the hot air gun removal process on them.

I am quite annoyed that there isn't calibration software for the elite pads... ive got a load of them that I just cant seem to match up the pots well enough to be viable... Ive had to go and buy a load of additional little manual calibration gizmos for them now.

Have you tried this?…

To calibrate the thumbsticks on an Xbox Elite controller on a PC, you can use the Xbox Accessories app to perform the following steps:
  1. Open the Xbox Accessories app
  2. Select the controller you want to calibrate
  3. Select … to open the device details screen
  4. Select Recalibration options
    • Choose the thumbstick you want to recalibrate
    • Follow the on-screen instructions

its a lie, all of this is a lie... it only works on the wireless standard series controller. Doesnt work on the elite series 1 or the elite series 2... anywhere that says it does is lying  ive spent way to long scratching my head... its time to hardware mod it.

Today I may look at these...

Parts are also here to hard mod the elite series 1 I cannot calibrate.

Mega CD is also sold. Woke up to messages from a regular asking me to pull down the mega as he wants. That didn't take long at all...

Great stuff Vince! I take it you get your caps from Ali as well? That’s a lot of caps to use in one go!!

I buy my caps from totally random places generally not through ali though I'll make a big order up through like Farnell or Mouser so that I can guarantee quality and that they aren't some weird fake.

Well that works prefect!!

Who needs a calibration tool...

I know before I did a little vid on changing pots with basic gear.. but this is how I actually do it... hot ait and my helping hands...

@Defy Belief - looked at your pads again this weekend as I fixed 6 of my own ps5 pads. I have worked out where its all gone a bit broken at least for one of them... So there are 3 types of pots on a ps5, alps @ 10k then another at 10K then there are the 2.3k pots from favour union. If you calibrate a favour union controller with 10k pots it nukes it! or at least messes up the firmware significantly. I think this could be whats happened...

If you look closely around the GinFull halls are only for replacing the 10k pots like the alps.

Well I can just send you one of my fixed ones from this batch and ill ship another when I have more and we just use yours for spare parts - One has like 3 of the 4 surface mount buttons broken anyway so its hardly worth the time - I was set on fixing that one up last night but saw the several missing buttons which was enough to throw it in the donor pile... Either way we are good... ive just replaced with normal pots for now on the ones I have done.

This is is very kind, i'm more than happy to just get one pad back and you can keep the other as donor/spares :) it's more than i'd have got out of the 2 I sent off!
