Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Blimey. That's a stack of consoles!

Had a go at replacing that PS5 HDMI port, what a pain to get off. So much flux, so much heat. Ended up repurposing my 3D Printer as a heater to get some soak into the board, got it off cleanly and cleaned it up. New port on and... nothing. :D

I got a slightly green fuzzy screen once when it was repairing the drive (guess the owner got cheesed off with it and unplugged it halfway through boot), then nothing. Starts up as normal, ejects disks and makes all the right noises but I'll be damned if I can get it to display a picture again.

There was a tiny resistor between two of the traces that I think I lost in the desoldering process, I've read that it's "not needed" but I'm starting to think it is (why would it be there in the first place?!)...

Im not doing myself any favours here... This week ive got like 3 ps5's, more xboxes, a steam deck, 2 GG's, ps4's... its going to be another expensive week! I cant turn them down though... not at the prices im paying.

Yeah but you turn them around faster than 2 week old milk turns on a hot day. :D Easy money!

Well all the One x Systems are now fixed... 5 retimers!! the rest were HDD issues... Not bad, not bad! Waiting on some new 1tb drives to turn up today and then all of them are done.

edit: just finished with suppler and now £750 lighter

Good work! Oh and yeah, but I’ll bet that £750 is quickly turned into considerably more profit!

I shall send it tracked 24 in the morning sir! Work is finished for the day. Have a beer and an hour or so chill and then I shall jump onto some repairs! I should have done a little "how many can I fix" on the xboxes... instead I may actually record the PS5's and do a how many can we fix on that.

The person ****** up 3+ ports?

both usb ports and the hdmi is also pushed in...

Well played Liam, well played! We know who you are!

Now these ports are factory fresh...

can i let you into a little secret as well... I hoovered up 2 caps with my solder sucker one on each usb port, they are about 100nf, which is handy because the caps on the apu of the switch are about the same spec 0201 size 100nf... yes i used a switch to fix a ps5 lol also I am an idiot didnt see em. it was only when i saw the shiny pads under the scope I knew I gone messed up.

Oh and another secret... I got in a muddle and spilt my beer everywhere mid repair lol.

That's exactly what's happening. I think the disk repair screen must be at a lower resolution/or spec to the normal output as that generated with a fuzzy screen.

On the Amp I can see the HDMI light pop up as it tries to negotiate then it goes off. Guess it is needed then :D

FWIW that filter cap was missing on this second one.. also 100nf... also stolen from a switch tegra apu... second ps5 now also fixed. :D

Bed and I'll fix the last one tomorrow.

HDMI ports seem to be one of the most common repairs I see (not me personally, but here, youtube repair videos etc), I have no idea how people are breaking them. I've never broken an hdmi port on anything, but apparently people out there are somehow smashing them up regularly

Never seen such badly mashed ports, especially the USB ones! Clearly someone has been shoving cables into those blindly, and all too often with the connector upside down by the looks of that mess!

Good work sorting them @Vince
