Seeing as it doesn't appear in the sticky, I thought I'd pimp Virgin's car insurance site - http://uk.virginmoney.com/car-insurance.

Hunting round the various sites for quotes on the 172, Virgin ended up quoting £100 cheaper than Direct Line, £150 cheaper than Tesco, and at least £250 cheaper than anywhere else did. Needless to say, I've now switched to them :)

Also, as an added bonus if you prefer to pay monthly (I don't but hey), they don't charge any interest for spreading the payment over the year.

So yeah, give 'em a go, save yourself some cash

I heard the advert about the monthly payments on the radio - seems good. I would have assumed that it would have bumped the premium prices up a bit to cover that. I'll have to check it out at time of my renewal later this year. I'm currently with privilege and I have to say they are really good, and are very good with mods too. What's Virgin like for mods? I wonder if they offer DOC cover like privilege do, and what their foreign policy is like etc... I have to say I think it'll be hard to beat around £400 FC for a modified mx5... Might be worth a go. :)

I'd still pay a lump sum though - at least it gets it out of the way. :)

That seems silly cheap
With Tesco at the moment with a quote of around £600 on a Clio which I thought was pretty decent, bearing in mind I'm a new driver still.
£500 with Virgin fully comp. Plus I prefer to pay monthly (Can't afford a lump sum) so the lack of interest could be handy.

I'm ringing and looking around for insurance now, Virgin were about the same as Admiral Group for my 307, but £300 dearer on a Puma or an MX-5 :S

Really? Weird :/

Maybe the reason they were cheaper for me is that they are better when it comes to claims and convictions. I've got 2 claims, one at fault and one none fault, as well as an SP30, and as soon as I mentioned these to a lot of companies the premium sky rocketed well past a grand.

Not sure to be honest as the 172 is standard, and being under 25 I never get offered DOC cover anyway. Never take the bugger abroad either! :p

Yeah, same here, even if doing so skints me for the next month :o

The Virgin quote was very similar to the one I got from Direct Line, the quote system looks like they're part of the same group?

It's not just Virgin that are higher with those 2 cars (Puma, MX-5) it's just that with Admiral they're the same as with the 307 (well £10 cheaper for the Puma actually lol).

Young pup. :p

And I like my mods ;)

Tell me about it!

I did a quote just for a laugh, unfortunately it was over £150 more than I'm paying now :( Still, not bad though. The mx5 varies hugely with companies - some companies prefer and are better with convertibles, some arent. I guess Virgin isn't too keen on them. But £401 FC is hard to beat in SE london really.

£600 for the Jag, and they want proof of an immobiliser. Not sky high, but have had better. 50% more than what the RAC or Norwich union wanted. (just under £400)

As for "we don't charge for monthly payments", i read it more as, "we don't offer a saving for those who can afford to pay in full"

EDIT: Just been running a few quotes, i seem to get better rates when i can list my accident as a "shunt: at fault", rather than "you hit a Third party"

Hmmm, must be something to do with my situation then that they are cheaper then if they aren't so good for everyone else. The quote they gave me is based on:

Fully Comp
No-claims bonus NOT protected
24 year old male with full license held for more than 3 years (7 years in my case)
5+ years no claims (6 years in my case)
City Centre postcode
Car on road
10,000 miles
Group 16 car (Clio 172)
2 Claims (One fault, one none fault)
1 Conviction (SP30 - 3 points and fine)
