Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Oh right, 520mbit with speedtest, no speedbump it seems! Saying that most sources seem to give higher speeds than the max speedtest shows

When Volt is activated on M500 you go to Gig1, not M600 as confirmed earlier in the thread, the service confirmation they sent me said the same and my new SH arrives today.

Contact them if your name, address and email are not the same on the accounts it may not work, and of course they are not the most efficient company know for doing things right, so there is that. :D

I wonder if we don't have Gig1 in my area but I can't seem to find out.

I got confirmation from o2 volt benefits active and my o2 has double mobile data

The last part of the network (about 1.2m? customers) is due to be upgraded before the end of the year, put your postcode and a different house number in that hasn't got VM on the checker and see if it offers you Gig1, if not then you're going to have to wait a few weeks. Mobile needs to e pay monthly rather than PAYG and VM account need to be in the same name and registered to the same address, but VM picked up on my eligibility without being prompted. They state it can take 14 days, but I ordered late on 30/10 (weekend), had active mobile on 2/11 and an email on 10/11 advising they had put me on Volt, but a new hub was required and would be with me today (17/11).

Yeah volt is deffo set up, got some free pods coming, don't really need them but they insisted and they're free.

He said they're working on upgrading the area for 1gig so I'm more than happy to wait a month or so if it's going to happen.

I've got all the channels and then 1gig internet for 57 quid seems reasonable.

They're charging me 32 a month though but don't seem to have flagged it with me.

If they still follow the old 'change freeze' process, then they won't do anything to the network for at least a few weeks either side of Christmas/New Year as it can create increased faults calls and staff understandably want to take holidays, so I would guess it's going to be sooner rather than later.

Can't wait to try 1gig out then!

On another subject of the bill, contract was 57 per month, they've made an error and charging me monthly 32, they've done a service change and sent a receipt (due to those pods they're sending me) and it confirms I'm paying 32 per months.

They've obviously accidentally left a discount on from the first package I had and got changed.

Will they ask me for the remainder in the future?

It has a section on it that states when the discount runs to, but the short answer is it's very unlikely they will.

Yes discounts end in 2023.

Contract states 57 per month

Change reciept shows 32 per month.

I mean if they never ask for the reminder what a bargain eh? 1gbps + a WiFi pod and maxit TV as well as calls (don't use calls) for £32 over 18 months.

So let me get this straight. I currently have VM 350mb broadband and a virgin mobile sim which is out of contract. If I change the mobile sim to an O2 sim I will get Volt and have my broadband speeds boosted?

I am in the same boat - would I go to M500 or 1 Gig ?

Take any pay monthly O2 SIM deal or phone+SIM and as long as both accounts are registered to the same address and in the same name, you go to the next tier up, so 350 would be 500 (600 is no longer sold seemingly) and 500 to Gig1. I went up from M500 to Gig1 on Wednesday with an £8/m SIM only package, £13 Quidco cash back and i've got £4 off airtime + the cash back on those transactions coming via the app.

I had the opposite

Had package set in Jan, was somehow getting charged above contract price! Didn't notice til recently because phone bill obscured the base cost.

Got a refund.

Has anyone got their Hub 5 and used it yet ? I got the same email referred to a few posts back. Does anyone know if the admin setting let you switch off the hub's wifi ?

I'm currently on a hub 2 with the Wifi switched off. I've then got a cable running from the hub to a Ubiquiti AP which handles the Wifi and also cables from the hub to my office and the wife's office upstairs. I want to be able to stick with the same arrangement as the Ubiquiti is located better in the house for getting decent wifi signal everywhere.

Modem mode never worked (!) When the installer was here we switched it on and not even wired connections worked - which he was stumped by as well.

Just got my Volt Gig1 upgrade from M600 after taking out a O2 SIM only for £6pm, great Volt benefit! Shame I can't get a Hub 5 yet, I'll patiently wait then I can chuck a 2.5Gb NIC in my PC and get the full benefit, the new router config shows it'll pull around 1200Mb. Best I can get for now with overheads.

I got the SIM on 10th, heard nothing for a few days so sent O2 a DM on Twitter, they logged it and said should be sorted within 14 days. Reading everywhere else they say don't even try contact VM they are useless (which I can confirm) and just leave it with O2 to communicate back to VM... So just got an email not long ago from VM (22nd) - they've confirmed my eligibility and upgraded me to Volt Gig1.

I realised as my work RDP and internet went down, 30 secs later the email pinged through as my router was booting back up. Got the config change immediately :D

Already on Ultimate Oomph paying £74pm with mates rates deal. Far cheaper than upgrading with VM direct who wanted £105-110pm when I spoke to them! :o
