Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I’d given notice to cancel, they rang back around a week later. She offered it for around £55pm initially, then I wouldn’t budge and she added an extra £7pm ‘manager discount’ she had to get approved. Making it the £48pm odd figure. Worth a go if not in contract :)

I was already paying £74pm on a Mates Rate deal someone from here had sorted for me early last year. I noticed new customers it was £85pm odd now. But the contract had lapsed and I wasn’t paying £130 odd a month for it lol.

Nice, I've just had that free Virgin upgrade, my BB has gone from 210 Mbps to 270 Mbps download, and 20 Mbps to 25 Mbps upload.

Better than a kick up the jacksy!
I've just joined this week, received a Hub 4 Monday and I was very happy when I set it up and got 270+ Mbps down and 25 Mbps up :D

I think ill try that myself next time, notice to cancel but just do it a month in advance that way it gives them time for retentions team to scramble, ill also wont budge and just say I can only afford £50... let them keep calling perhaps till they can offer it, clearly your deal is insane and you save 50% what I pay each month so its worth a shot.

Having said that if I get one more outage from VM bb, I might just disconnect for real :D

After some opinions

Been a virgin customer since moving in, was originally on firends and family deal thanks to my brother, but over the years my package has crept up on cost year on year.

Currently im on the below:

Separate Virgin Sim card - Unlimited everything (data and calls and texts) @ £24 per month.

M350 Fibre Broadband

Maxit TV Package

Virgin TV V6 Box. powered by TiVo
Additional TV Box (v6 Tivo)

Kids Pick TV pack

I was paying £77 a month for the above (Friends and Family) however email said expect this to renew @

£114.75

I Called 150 number and spoke to the billing team, They have offered me some options:

Option A - Keep the same package, nothing changes 18 months contract @ £72 per month and we lose 1x bedroom Tivo Box (which in fairness is not even plugged in) - Keep my current Virgin pay monthly Sim card (which i pay separately for @ £24 a month - Total: £96)

Option B, keep the package the same but upgrade to M500 MB Fibre internet (currently on 350mb) - for £82 per month. 18 month contract. Keep my current Virgin Sim @ £24 a month - Total: £106

Option C. Gigabit Fibre internet (1000MB) + New router (Hub 5) - Top TV Package (includes a Netflix sub, sky cinema, sky sports hd, 2 tv boxes for £86 a month, but have to also take out a £25 a month 02 Simcard to swap my current Virgin SIM over to, which i pay £24 a month for as it is. TOTAL: £111 a month

Option C obviously seems the most appealing - but after any advise on the above.

I got my Hub 5 installed today, too. I ordered it using the link on the previous page, and despite us being on Gig1 it was delivered first time with no questions asked. Browsing is snappier, and pings seem better, though I've not tested under load yet. Either way it's nice to be away from the Puma 6 chipset.

My ultimate oomph was going from 96 to 146. Just called and was offered the following for 89 per month

Ultimate volt, 1gb, unlimited SIM, sky sports and movies, two boxes, netflix standard and Disney+

I guess I'm already paying the 10.99 for netflix so it's 78 a month and I gain disney.

Seems OK - I really want sky sports in UHD but I'd lose on the broadband front for that...

I'm not sure I'm brave enough to cancel and hope for a call back as I need the broadband for work. Any thoughts?

My Hub5 arrived yesterday.

Seems ok so far. They told me to recycle the old hub 2
Managed to get round to setting my SH5 up, did a software update then after setting to modem mode only it failed to play nicely with my UniFi APs so I factory reset it, and disabled but 5Ghz/2.4Ghz and it’s working fine now? Is that not what “modem mode” is?

I think like said above you almost have to play games with these people (retentions team) maybe if you got time and some effort you can keep haggling and perhaps get it down more.

But I have to say I pay £110 per month for last year and I don't get a fraction of what option C gets you, I get 350MB, 2 V6 boxes, maxit and telephone line....

So when I compare like that its mind blowing Deal C is but as you can see on top of page others are getting the cherries on top of the cream and then some ie better deals for 48 quid per month.

One thing I don't like from VM is how they can just offer a minor speed increase, see your Option B you go from 350Mb to 500Mb and its suddenly a NEW 18 month contract, its like a falling into the trap....on purpose and in some cases you are actually paying them more money! So really it should just be an extension of existing contract almost since its so minor but we all know they will argue and say pay off contract or don't keep the discount forcing you to keep the contract going since its cheaper.

All companies are doing it I know it just feels sour.

That Puma took too long to kill

Yeah I'm half tempted when she calls back Sunday to put the ball back in her court looking at the above offers others have had.

Ill try my luck and see what I can get.

Worth a go. Seems brand loyalty means naff all these days. So I might threaten to leave and see what they say

When you guys got your free Hub5 routers, did you just swap it over with the old hub and ring them up to activate it?
