Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Ooooh seems I too was successful on getting a Hub5 secondtime around and it is coming today, don't recall getting a confirmation, but cool.

Now to fumble around blind behind my desk looking for the 2.5Gb port on my switch.

All installed pretty straight forward took no more than a few minutes, just running in normal router mode at the moment rather than modem mode whilst I check its stability etc.

Wifi seemed pretty good off the router, easy 900+ Mb, range not so hot but my house is difficult.

Latency seems a little higher, normally around 10 on my desktop but that is perhaps because I am not in modem mode, still seems to be in the same ball park for power usage as the SH4 too.

Won't change my life but nice to have for nowt.

Ill try this tonight, thanks.

VM when I called said there were "Intermittent issues" in my area, which is BS as these issues only appeared when installing the new hub. The CS rep said to give it 24 hours and if the issue still persists, a technician can be booked.
Still the same after pin reset. Engineer booked. Frustrating as nothing has changed apart from this VM hub.

Do you have any attenuators on your modem? Wonder if using the new channels if the power levels or something are a bit out now although weird that it doesn't show them in the status page for you.

Had my SH5 in for a few days, 350M service, Am I right in understanding the lower tier subscribers have a boost, but nothing from 350M side onwards?

All the years I’ve been with Virgin my ping had never been lower than 22ms on that. VM routing for me has quite the number of hops unfortunately:/

Yes nothing for 350/500/1000 although the business customers are getting some changes next year so could follow for residential as well.

"We should add that some customers of Virgin Media Business, specifically those on their Voom Gig1 (1Gbps) plan, have also seen their upload speeds boosted (here) to around 75-100Mbps (previously 50Mbps). But at the time of writing, the operator hasn’t yet confirmed whether this is just a selected trial or if it is being rolled out to all of their related customers.

UPDATE 9:33am

VMO2 has just confirmed that they’ll also be boosting upload speeds for small business customers from “early” 2023, which specifically relates to those on their Voom 600, 800 and 1 Gig service tiers. But they haven’t said exactly what will change."

Good to see upload speeds starting to creep up, worried I'm going to get too hooked on 1GB and not be able to cope if I move out of London :o.

How did you apply for your Hub5?

I see there is a free upgrade being rolled out to M100 and M200 users. Will have to check mine tonight as I think we may have already had it since we had our first outage in a very long time the other day, which to be fair, we had a letter about saying it would go offline for a bit. My service with VM over the last decade or so has generally been very good. I seem to have lucked out with the areas I have been in in terms of contention.

Had my 1GB line for a week now, it's fast enough for sure. The VM Connect app is terrible and the UI for the router very basic (Hub 5).

Do many people rub modem mode with the Hub 5? I'm tempted to get a decent WIFI6 router and chin off the VM UI for good.

Yeah I use Modem mode with a Hap ax2 (WiFi6) on 200M connection, you want something good, wifi and 2.5G port for future reference though maybe.

I set it up on the first day and have not touched it since.

Only reason to get another router is if you want more configuration options, otherwise out the box its fine.

well im in a right pickle now.

Virgin neglected to tell me that we would lose all the Tivo V6 recordings in the transfer, only when my partner told me that she hasent finished the recorded neighbours episodes since its come off air (40 of them....) that she does not want to upgrade until shes watched them

Called and spoke to virgin who said basically we either cancel, and my £77 package renews at the out of contract cost of £115 a month, with no upgrade to gigabit/channels etc. and they will not honour the offer of £69 a month + £25 on the 02 SIM card when we wish to upgrade, meaning there is a risk to an increase on that also should and when i wish to upgrade. There is no way to run a V6 box alongside the upgraded Line (gig1) and 360 TV software upgrade.

Literally cant find neighbours ANYWHERE online to stream, download or buy or anything so now im ******.

There is no talking the misses out of cancelling the upgrade (due tomorrow) until shes watched them all.

honestly FML

Anyone getting any sort of packet loss today? Warzone was getting anywhere between 3-10% packet loss, And doing a online test i lost 1 packet.

Could just be a hiccup and hopefully go away later.

Time to put your foot down m8

New misses maybe?

Honestly, its just so annoying. Shes had since end of July to watch all that ****

Ive found some eps on daily motion - so worst case thats that. I am not paying £40 a month extra so she can keep them on there until they force the 360 upgrade anyway so its tough ****
