Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Just posted mine back now. Their instructions said to only put 1 device in each paper bag, but they only gave me 2 bags to cover 2 TV boxes and the router... Also started the process of ripping out all the cabling that was put in to run one of the boxes into the basement, found that they'd stapled through the cable at least 10 times on the way.
Damn. The workmanship lol.

I got 1 bag to put router in and placed power supply and Ethernet cable around it and their spanner lol. I'm kinda waiting for them to say about charging me for non returned gear. I hope it just goes the easy route.

I'm pleased I swapped to BRSK because the stupid guy tried to charge me more. He needs fired!!! I have had 3 mirco dropouts on BRSK though. It was like for a minute, if that, each time. I only noticed it as was doing stuff at time.

I initially when got BRSK set up Broadband Quality monitor and it worked for first day, but after that it doesn't work and thinking its because I'm dynamic and on CGNAT. I set up many new monitors, too. No matter what I pinged I have had no packet loss so I'm not worried or fixated.

Hate to pick holes but £29 is NOT less than half of £57 and 900mb is not 9x gigabit but yes, why take less for more
It's less than half of £85 which I was offered for internet only 1gig. I'm currently on 300 but Volted upto 500.

9x the upload speed you get on virgins 1gig.

VM are overbuilding their coax network with FTTP separate to new build that is happening under the Nexfibre brand. If it's a (relatively) small grey cabinet then that's what it's for.

Just before Christmas I signed up with VM for fibre BB only 1gb for 39.99 a month 18 month contract

I don't really have a lot of choice though, open reach only have FTTC and we get a whopping 20mb with that. Been on 4G for the last 12 months with Vodafone, can get 120mb on a good day.

Virgin are due on Monday to connect us up (they came 2 weeks ago to install the line)

Fibre heroes were installing in our town then just gave up after a few streets.

I see people mentioned getting bolted when being an o2 customer but those deals seem worse than what I'm paying.

Funnily enough, I've noticed a lot of these around by me even though to my knowledge the area is still very much coax only.

It seems every street around here but wondering if it is a capacity thing? I'm no longer with VM but if they offer a good deal I could return.

Rang retentions as had a few missed calls but they offered a worse deal than when I left. Weird how they can see I was offered a better deal originally but they can no longer renew at that price.

Will try to catch one of their phone calls and see if that is any better

lovely neat job by VM today :p

on another note, when i had BT installed I had the router in a comms cabinet in our utility rom out of the way using an ethernet cable (as pictured below)
With VM its fibre from their box on the wall to the router, is there anyway i can hide a converter inside that box on the wall ? (I'm not home yet so haven't seen it in the flesh so to speak yet)

5 days of no tracking update and says on Yodel app returned to Virgin last night. That's good news.
That just reminded me to track mine, returned to VM 2 hours ago. Now just need to wait for the manager escalation on backdating my cancellation... One Touch Switch didn't trigger the cancellation, so they billed me for another month.

I hope that goes well. It should be fine in the end. It is partly why I avoided it and I had to make sure this new connection was installed prior as bird in hand etc.

Anyone have a rough idea how long it normally takes for VM to refund any bill payments after cancelling?
Took a good 3-4 weeks for it to come through for me.

Edit:

28th Dec - service cancelled
7th Jan - return box received and dropped off with Yodel
17th Jan - email from them to say they have the kit
3rd Feb - refund email from them
5th Feb - refund received

It was with Yodel for ages when I was tracking it but that's no surprise. Probably took a bit longer to receive the box etc due to the time of year.

just reached the end of my 18 month contract with Virgin, on Volt 500 for £35~. Had palava in the first place as guy knocked on the door and offered me a deal for when my Plusnet deal was out a few months later. He told me it'd be the M250 package and they'd double the speed because I was on O2.

Then they didn't double the speed, they added 100Mb because Volt doesn't double, and the guy who knocked on the door had got it wrong (deliberately or by mistake)
A few phone calls later and a manager added discounts to get me the price he'd offered.

Now they want to charge me (by the looks of it) £65.39 a month. For just internet.

Called up retentions, as there's other providers in my area (Squirrel Internet?, BeFibre, Octaplus and iDNet all via Full Fibre Ltd) that will also do me FTTP, 900/900 for around £30/m. Retentions didn't seem to care about any other providers - "They're all just offering me introduction offers." (Squirrel's price is locked for 24 months, and after that goes up a whole £4...) and despite Virgin offering new customers M500 for less than they were charging me for V500, the best retentions could offer was £54 a month. Pretty awful.
I then got a call from the "Outgoing Team"? offering 1Gig for £42/month. I asked what 500Mb would be, and he said it's the same price, because the offer is an upgrade deal...

Has anyone got any advice? Feels like the best option at this point would be to take a chance on a different provider. Are Virgin likely to offer me any better?

My contract was up, price increased. I was on standard TV, phone and 350 internet volted to 500. The renewal prices were ridiculous. They offered me 1Gig internet only for £85.. Just said I'm leaving. Toob installed today, works flawlessly from the start. £29 for 18 months. :)

You should think about trying a new provider. I took the chance on a new provider and am glad up to this point that I did. I don't need 900/900 but it is nice for big game downloads.

I got my new provider installed and next day handed in my 30 days to Virgin. I'm still amazed that when I phoned Virgin for a deal sweetner they tried rising it instead by £4 to £46 for M125. I leave then they try offer me a deal at £19 via a text message 4 days before disconnection. Sorry, I'm gone and not returning if I can help it.

I'd think on how you'd want to transition if you do move. I didn't use one touch.
