Virgin Media Discussion Thread

No final bill email as of this moment, but I have received an email that their prepaid equipment returns packaging is on the way.

I've checked my account and amount due is now at zero with today bill date. They have credit the account £1.84 more than should've been but I'm owed nothing in my eyes as seamless billing periods.

I received the cardboard box to return the router and the extender plugs which I never used. Will send back next week once CF is up and running.
How long did it take to receive your returns cardboard box from them after receiving the email?

Virgin definitely running scared if you have fiber in your area.

Made the call last week - we had 350Mb, Mixit TV, phone which went to £81 when contract ended, got them down to £44 for the same deal. Just refused all their offers and told them to cancel and I'd go internet only with Zen - the guy caved in immediately I said that and knocked another £10 off.

Yes, I can get 500Mb fiber for slightly less, but this way we keep the TV and don't have to deal with the internet outage and them drilling holes in the house to get their cable in from the street.

I'm in my last week with VM now after choosing first to switch to Vodafone, which went badly as they failed to activate it on their end, then to go for IDNet instead. The connection from VM will be active until IDNet finish activating my line, no outage to deal with.
Already have my return box from the move to Vodafone triggering them to send it. Will be packaging up the hub and 2 TiVo boxes next week.

For me it was their Ultimate Volt bundle, which was the only option they'd give me to keep my Gig1 fibre from them the last time I hit contract renewal. Price jumped from £95 to £155 per month, moving to IDNet's 2500 up/down for £66 per month. Never used the TV or landline anyway.

I got the email on the 29th, then it arrived on the 31st. They were wrong about it fitting through a standard size letterbox though.

I got the email on the 5th and still not arrived. Thanks for heads up on the letter box. I have said to my neighbour the other day I'm expecting it and to keep an eye out.

I was surprised it turned up so quick, the email said up to 2 weeks. I was at a funeral when it turned up and they just propped it against my front door. Luckily it was still there when I got home a few hours later.

Maybe I should have called instead, I used the online chat and lowest they could go for 1Gig was £36 but then it would going up in April closer to £40. Asked them to cancel instead as can get 1 Gig full fibre cheaper than that and they made no further offers.

If they ring back with a cheaper price then I'll stay but we have other options now so not too fussed.

I'm recently out of contract with Virgin. Price has shot up to £70-odd for Mixit TV, telephone (not used) and 500Mbit internet (02 mobile volt+).
Toob have recently installed here, wondering if I can just stick a USB stick into TV to record off Freeview, dump virgin and switch to Toob internet. (900Mbit up and down). Though Toob do use CG-Nat (shared IP's) unless you pay extra for private static IP.

Some of you might recall I cancelled (1 gig volted on superhub 5)and signed up in my wives name at the same address; retentions offers were poor and meant £20+ a month saving, £50 bill credit and £60 quidco cashback.

They cancelled my internet at midnight, the "new router" (hub 3 (more on this later)) provided arrived later the same day, plugged in and up and running again; albeit on VM500, knowing full well it would get o2 volted to 1gbit due to being an O2 customer.

I sympathise for anyone who has the misfortune of this absolutely terrible router, no wonder I read so many instances where people run in modem only mode and source their own router. In order to get the desired speeds over wireless you had to be literally stood within 1 foot. I don't live in a particularly large house but my phone was falling back to 5G because of the poor wireless signal in areas where full signal was available previously everywhere and even near the bottom of the garden.. first world problems i know.

3-4 days later, wife got an email saying that they she was getting volted and a new router was on the way, thank goodness!
Why they couldn't check volt eligibility at point of order escapes me, hopefully they will improve on this and save themselves and customers time and money in the near future.

Now the fun task of dropping off my original superhub 5 (under my name) and the potato hub 3, annoyingly has to be Yodel drop off only which is an inconvenience but never mind!

One observation I have made is that VPN traffic appears to be getting blocked on iOS devices since the new connection.. having researched this I think it might be to do with child safety settings defaulting to ON, but have yet to look into further.
this is the way

It turned up today and just got in my mailbox. I had to be careful getting it out.

It's all boxed up and ready to go tomorrow :)

Had a missed call from 02037436970, googling suggests it either VM calling to offer a deal or a scam company. Helpful :p

I read there is a number to ring if you miss their calls but can't find it now

Took two calls and over a week for me. They tend to send threatening email reminders telling you about their charges BEFORE they send the damned box

I got mine on the 9th, which was lucky and sent the router back the next day around 10am. Yodel updated me 4 times on that day(Wednesday) up until 10:30pm that it left a main depot and nothing updated since. I have screenshots on phone and my receipt so I'll worry about it if the worst happens.

I wish they didn't use Yodel, but that's their problem now.

Spoke to Virgin customer services to see what deal they could do me. Offered me £57 for staying on existing, or £85 for 1gig internet only! Lol. I said why would I get that when I can get 9x more upload speed with Toob for less than half the price?!

They really are taking the mickey with prices now there's some actual competition around. Probably going to cancel everything and switch to Toob. Found out my TV has basic PVR functionality if I stick a USB drive in. Will do for us, if not I'll get a proper PVR. Still will save £350ish a year.

Just posted mine back now. Their instructions said to only put 1 device in each paper bag, but they only gave me 2 bags to cover 2 TV boxes and the router... Also started the process of ripping out all the cabling that was put in to run one of the boxes into the basement, found that they'd stapled through the cable at least 10 times on the way.

£350 per year saving here based on the pre-hike price I was paying, or £1068 per year based on the new contract they put me on. Day 2 with IDNet, so far so good...

Hate to pick holes but £29 is NOT less than half of £57 and 900mb is not 9x gigabit but yes, why take less for more
