Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I read in here a while back that those customers on the 50mb package who were notified of the 100mb free upgrade later this year were able to pull a cheeky one and request the upgrade early once 100mb was available in their area.

I just wanted to know how you pitched that idea out there and what the chances of success are or if they have put a stop to it now?

Just call their retentions line. I upgraded like in early April when it was officially due a rather vague 'July onwards'. The guy on the other line was probably the most helpful person I've actually seen at Virgin. No new contract, no extra charges, just upgraded me straight away.

has anyone in LE4 area got the free upgrade yet??

just got a superhub as a replacement for the white netgear router which died

i'm quite unhappy with it at the moment as i used to be able to download a game from steam, browse these forums and watch youtube videos at the same time with my dad on another pc watching youtube videos and playing games etc and never had a problem

now if either of us download something the whole network just comes to a crawl and takes a while to open a web page up for both of us like googles main page, which used to just open up near instantly, it's like it's not sharing the bandwidth equally now, we're on the 10Mb package and i used to download from steam at around 520Kb/s, now i'm getting the full 1.2Mb/s hogging the whole connection lol

do i have to go out and buy another router and run the superhub in modem mode to sort that out? or is there something in that new R36 firmware coming soon that would help? or am i just a big nooby mcnoob and completely missed a setting that already exists?

we are both on ethernet connection

Cardiff, 100Mbps down, 5Mbps up. Firmware updated, not much difference - red line is where modem went off for 5 mins or so during the update.

My connection seems to have settled back down to normal again. For a few weeks I kept getting intermittent packet loss every 5 minutes or so but normal download speeds. Complete pain.

You need QoS at router level or something like Netlimiter.

mine looks terriable:

on r36 now

Nice! 172 T3 timeouts.

Best thing you can do to help yourself is check that all the cabling is VM fitted cable and that it has proper VM crimp connectors. Then make sure all connectors are tight (finger tight plus 1 quarter turn with spanner)

If you find any loose connectors then see how it goes over the next 24hrs or so.

If the cable is not proper virgin issue then you will need it replacing. It could also be a combination of other things causing it though

I have just received an update. This has been raised under Fault reference F001989772. Work to resolve this issue is currently scheduled to take place on 11/05/2012 (although this may be subject to change).

Hi Alc,

The fix date was pushed back to this morning, although the issue seems to remain ongoing

My apologies, fault ref F001989772 has a target fix date of 01-07-2012

Hi Alc,

The estimated fix date has now moved back to the 15th, although we are still waiting on a written update to elaborate upon this.
Kind Regards,

Jason G.

Another fix date missed

October is still the 120Mb rollout date for my area, still on the 3rd world 50Mb for the time being :(

:p

Wonder which day the 30mb XL club will be updated to the new firmware. Been getting a lot of dc's recently and i do not know why and i hope this fixes it somewhat. Was fine since about a week or two ago.

Btw the ThinkBroadband monitor stopped working for me some time ago. Any advice on how to fix it. It has DMZ thing ticked the ip was 192.168.0.0 then i tried 1 on the end the router didnt like it so tried 2 and it set but still no good for the monitor its just always red no matter what i try even making a new monitor etc. Maybe its cos the firewall is on in the router, or upnp is off i duno. Think they were like that when it worked.
