Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I had +10/+12 last week. I was grumbling about it because the whole street had problems at +15 about four months ago, and networks brought it down to +6. I checked again today, and it's a much more sensible +3/+4, so it seems VM are doing quite a bit of fiddling with various parts of the network.

Buffering has come back again can't play 240p videos at the current time 8:40pm

I really hope they sort this problem because I have to download my videos to watch them.

Am about to push the button on a package and have a few questions people may be able to answer:

Is it worth adding the extra box from day one? We would maybe like a second box in our bedroom so we could watch different channels upstairs. How is this box installed? We just decorated so could do without the place being ripped up to run cables from the main cable to the bedroom.

Is it worth the M+ TV package for the on demand stuff? We don't watch a great deal of TV but the difference to get the on demand on M+ from M is only 8 quid a month.

Current offer on their site:

100mb, M TV plus a phone line is £41 PCM after initial discount or £49 with M+ after initial discount. Just can't decide if the extra dosh for TV is worth it...

Any advice is appreciated :)

I'm getting YouTube issues again at peak times after having the same issue about a year ago. Free proxy helps but not massively. Incredibly frustrating!

Virgin Media are rolling out new packages, first to current customers and then to new customers.

They are replacing the Premier, VIP ones etc.

If you phone up you can switched to one of the new packages. I was on premier but I phoned up about something else and they offered to switch me to one of the new ones which increases my speed from 100mbps ->152mbps, for £4,70 less p/m while also not tying me into a longer contract.

Nice, rang them and indeed they have, strange it doesnt mention it on the site, anyway not a big saving but saving us £5 and getting a 1TB Tivo box too, also the net has been upgraded to 152mb in the process even though my area isnt due till August according to the supercharge website lol.

Speed is probably a little lower due to only just been pushed to me.

Anymore info on the new packages? Can't seem to find much about them online.

Are you guys calling the sales team or another department. I can't get anywhere with Sales team.

I used to have an email contact for someone in the Outbound team but they no longer reply, probably got sacked or moved on haha

Need to get a deal with TV but refuse to pay £49.95 for engineer to attend to literally plug a cable in and enable it.

Do you already have a package? Or looking for a new one?

And I just phoned the accounts team as I wanted to do some changing around of things and they offered it me without me even asking for a discount or anything.

I'm assuming when their 12 month half price offer ends in a few days they will announce the new packages.

just got my final bill - as we've moved and have no access to VM services

to my surprise on top of what we owed them we were charged 26.66 in contract termination fees

when I phoned to ask how I could still be in contract (hadn't made any changes I as aware of for a long time to my account) - I was told it was in August when I got my speed boost from 100-120 - making me in contract till August 14 ?!!

seems odd to me

They can't tie you in for the speed boosts, without your consent anyway. I'd chase that up.

I've got a supervisor coming round tomorrow. Haven't had internet since last Friday. Regular engineer couldn't fix it. Every time you plug a superhub on my line, it seems to brick it. It doesn't work after a few seconds, the bloke tried about 3 superhubs. Don't know what's going on.

Hi, we have just been upgraded recently from 60mb to 152 mb. Did a speed test wired and got 160 mb but on wireless on my laptop (even when right next to the original super hub i have just got 52.69)

I have the Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 135 in my laptop and as far as i can see, capable of up to 150MB. Could this be a problem with my wifi card?

could this be something with the Superhub? has anyone got the original superhub and getting a lot better speeds than i am? Would it be worth me trying to get the super hub 2 off virgin for free (anyone had any luck trying to do this?)

Not really wanting to have to pay for a router to use the superhub in modem mode.

any help appreciated.
