Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Oh interesting, I knew it would be another upgrade and that they were testing 300Mbit but didn't think it would be so soon.

its a shame they screw over long term subscribers:(

seriously thinking about switching as my bills are creeping up all the time

all the best deals are for new customers

Just drop to the next tier down? what are you actually going to miss, when you get the double bandwidth increase you'll have the same speed as before really, what do yo miss on the TV package? it's all repeats and adverts anyway.

If your contract has ended, you COULD go at anytime. If you are in a new contract, you CAN'T go. It's not about loyalty it's about legally binding contracts.

Reminds me of the discussion in Dogma, faith isn't faith if you know for a fact :p

My loyalty discount just ran out, threatened to leave but couldn't get much out of them even when saying I got a better Sky deal. I think they saw how much I download / stream and knew I wouldn't want slower broadband.

Ended up agreeing to £38.99 for M+ TV/100Mb/Basic Phone. Don't think that's a great deal :/

I took the line rental saver a few years ago starting in February, then had a router or tivo upgrade in June or July that started a new 12 month contract some time later.

That all worked out fine but now I renew the line rental saver in Feb then my loyalty customer saver changes in summer and it seems they have me by the balls twice a year instead of only once now.

So I'm going to try and get both those things to pair up this year so I can have better negotiating terms next time.

It should also help that BT are laying fibre in just around the corner from me at the moment so hopefully that will be available for me soon as an alternative to VM .

Playing matches in Quake and having a team mate ETTU kill everyone as he was on ISDN and we were all on dial up, those were the days :D

Naaa I was on my 56k modem and used to destroy even people on isdn and used to get the CHEATER !! tag all the time =] was a fun time

hope the upgrades comes sooner takes ages to upload videos atm :) downloads are fine but a free upgrade is fine

I wish I could even watch videos. My VM connection is too slow to even stream youtube at the moment. Buffering on 1080p :(

Awful connection issues since I signed up for VM. Was good for about 2 months, ever since it's been woeful.

I miss my BT Infinity. Always top speeds even during peak hours, streaming to Twitch worked seriously well.

Now i'm lucky to watch Twitch let alone stream to it.

Here's 152Mbit during the weekend. lol

If you can get BT, Sky, PlusNet fibre.... then get on that. VM are a joke. Quoting months to fix this issue.

Is anyone having issues with youtube again? ... can't play a 3 min video @ 240p without the video buffering.

Have also tried with my VPN but have the same problem.

Whilst it's unfortunate that you've having poor performance from VM in your area, you can't unfortunately tar the entire provider like that as congestion at your local exchange or UBR (in the case of cable) will affect your throughput regardless of provider which is why doing initial research at your location prior to purchase is a must - it can mean the difference between having a solid service from the provider or a crappy service.

Before anyone gets a VM service, jump on their forums (http://community.virginmedia.com/) or Cable Forum (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/) and do a search for your location and have a trawl through the threads.

If your seeing the same issue through your VPN then i suspect it may not be VM related

I thought that too but get the same problem on a laptop & tablet. PC has a clean install of windows too.

will give iplayer a try tonight to see if I have any problems with the video buffering.

thanks for the help.
