New superhub telling me that it cannot connect me to the internet and to ring my supplier, meanwhile I am browsing at 300MBS with no problems?

I got a super hub 3 yesterday and so far it's worse than my 2 AC it replaced. Range is less and have had a few dropouts. It also will not let my Wife's IPad connect on 5GHZ for some reason....

The best news to come out since before the announcement of the NTL/Telewest merger.
Maybe now (more?) VM BB customers will start getting a great BB service like Telewest were renowned for, before VM/NTL took over.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they only talking about FTTP for new builds and no mention of extending their existing infrastructure?

Mine's working a treat but in modem mode with my own router so I have no idea what the wifi's like

I have my SH3 in modem only mode but I now get a lot of internet drop outs for minutes at a time (on Homeworks+ 300Mb). I'm sure some might like the all white but I for one can't stand the colour.

Getting 1.5-2.5 on BT last night, had enough & thinking of going with vivid 100... Anyone know if the virgin hub is better for wireless than the bt home hub 3?its not too bad over wired, usually 10-15 above wireless, just awful at wireless...

Superhub 2 ac wireless is pretty decent. Cant comment on the 3. I wont be getting the 3 when I come around to upgrade the router as I am getting annoyed with the lack of features in the firmware of these cheap routers.

Just phoned up to cancel my not actually bad Virgin deal as have a code for Sky Multi-room plus everything for £35 for a year.

I am paying about £72 a year for Virgin currently (goes up £10 loyalty in 6 weeks). For this I get

2 x TiVo boxes
All Normal Channels (no sports or movies)
152mb broadband
Evening and Weekend Calls

Just need to find a decent unlimited fibre supplier for less than £30 a month inc line rental to make the hassle of switching worth it.

Am holding off ordering anything for a day or two in case Virgin do call with a nice offer.

They were doing £66 (plus line rental) for everything (sports/movies/200mb) last month for new customers and actually offered me something similar as an existing customer so there are deals to be had if you persist. All about getting through the customer services wall and onto retentions.

I've just been upgraded from a SH to a SH2 (I can't tell if it's the AC version), but as soon as I set it into modem mode I can't get it to even ping googles DNS servers. Any idea's?

I've disabled the wifi functions in the meantime, but I'd rather keep it in modem mode if possible.

Thanks

What router are you using with it?

Virgin finally been back and put the pipping outside my house, builders finished this last week but still waiting for my post code to show on Virgin's website to put a order in :(

Switch everything off, power it on in the order modem -> router -> PC

Vertigo1, it's a Netgear WNDR3700v4.

Steampunk, I've tried that but I can only then connect to the SH, I cannot even ping Virgin's own DNS servers.

VM is currently being installed in my area and when I used to be with them, I got hit badly by traffic shaping and an over-subscribed area. I am wondering what a new area will be like and how bad traffic shaping is now?

Thank you :)

Seems to be luck of the draw.

When they first put cables in in my old house we never got throttled (or extremely rarely) but a few years later when more people were using it it was pointless even trying to download anything in the evening as you would get slowed down before it finished.
This was in a small town

Now we have moved house to the City (Nottingham) I rarely notice and slowdown at busy times and if you do get slowed its not such a big %
In my old place you would be down to 10% but now I still seem to get 30-50% which is still ok.

That doesn't seem so bad. On my old 100Mb connection, I was down to 2Mb most evenings and weekends, just because it was a busy area :(

I've got until mid July before my current contract runs out with Plusnet. Its been getting really slow the past couple of months.

I'm well impressed with the SH3 router.

At my sisters house: ground, upstairs and loft.
Router is on a high shelf in the small bedroom upstairs.
Ethernet cables from there to the adjacent bedroom into a TV, another into the loft into a network switch for 2 consoles, another from the router is a 25meter cable going downstairs into the living room switch for a PC and printer and TV.

The PC downstairs used to get 20ms on speedtest.net which was pretty slow, with the SH2.
Now the area has been upgraded for double speeds their PC now gets 8ms ping and 206Mb download.

As for Wifi; 166Mb with iPhone 6s placed a foot away, forgot to test downstairs but there was 3/3 bars for signal strength, only used to get almost always 2/3 bars from the SH2.
