Hi mate received AC-LP today and thinking of running it straight from SH in modem mode.

Is this option solid?? or should I go and grab a EdgeRouter X?

edit* I was thinking of grabbing edgerouter x for stability but I am also wondering do the Virgin Media SH ethernet ports still work whilst in modem mode as well as edgerouter either ports at same time?

thanks
Think of you connect the AC-LP direct to SH in modem mode then you'll have no firewall in place. I've always had a non VM router back from the days when they only supplied modems (IE a surfboard) so my SH went straight into modem mode connecting to my router and I note hang my AC-LRs off that.
Probably what you need to do is to keep the SH in router mode but consider turning it's wireless off.

Just ordered the complete TV package with Virgin along with two V6 boxes and the Gamer broadband so hopefully I get a decent service.

Broadband a few years back wasn't too bad, always got the full speed just the traffice management which annoyed me, which I will not get this time so fingers crossed it will be all good.

Just got to wait now until the 27th January for the installation.

Thanks buddy, will add a edgerouter x and tp-link switch.

You need to know which hop is causing that loss

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the router is like for 200Mbps business broadband. My wife had to open a business account as we could not get virgin residential due to the location of the outside feed, Just wanting to know if the router is up to scratch or is there any other cable routers that will perform better

I've had Virgin for a few months now, initially it was horrendous, constant disconnects, WiFi dropouts and speed issues. Since putting the hub into modem mode, switching to pfSense and adding a Unifi AP it's been perfect, no issues whatsoever. The upload throttling during the day is a bit of a pain, but I've now scheduled my CrashPlan uploads to only work outwith the restricted times. (Still showing an estimate of 4 months to complete my backup :p)

I got a letter today from the director of customer complaints saying the issues I've raised (Puma 6) will be handled directly by one of their people and I'm due to be contacted about it.

I wonder what they will do, let's see.

From your post, I Googled Puma 6 and I now wonder if that's the reason I have constant (as in, non-stop) packet loss issues in BF1. So much so that I haven't played it since a few weeks after release!

Would you mind copy and pasting your letter here? Obviously I will change it to suit myself. But the way I see it, the more complains VM get about this issue the more likely it is to be fixed quicker.

V6 box?

I'll have to see if I saved a local copy! As I wrote it, printed it and can't remember if I saved it :(

Worth noting I have not yet had a call from the appointed person who has supposedly taken ownership of this.

So, I see they are now offering new customers packages with the new V6 box...
They can also renew your contract and give you a V6 box. However there is an activation fee, installation fee and £50 for the box. Somebody I spoke with was able to waive the first two fees, however insisted he could only credit me with a maximum of £25 per call, therefore I'd have to pay £25 - which isn't bad, really.

While speaking, it appears that last year VM sent a faulty firmware to Tivo boxes. This caused them to severely slow down. Apparently a recent firmware to address this issue wasn't very successful and another will be released sometime this year - when is anybody's guess.

In the meantime, I don't see why I should have to put up with a slow Tivo box or pay to have to have something that works installed.

I have a deal with Virgin Media - £20 for 18 months just broadband and basic TV ( don't use the tv bundle and I have put the virgin box in storage)

Now the crux of the problem is that wired, my pc is getting 49.5MB/s which is basically the 50MB package broadband I wanted, which is great....BUT....and herein lies the issue, with the wireless connection to my wireless stuff, mobile phone, etc I'm only getting about 4MB/s....yes four!

When it comes to streaming stuff via my firestick i'm on the limit of what I can stream without buffering and if anyone connects wirelessly to the network then buffering happens. What can I do to boost the wireless speeds? Worth buying a new router?

I can't believe that I can get 50MB wired but less than a tenth of that wirelessly.

Anyone else having similar issues with virgin wireless speeds?

Hey guys , I've just had a super hub 3 sent as my hub 2 had been playing up.

I've just set it up but when you connect it goes to a page saying : "Your unit is updating, please wait a moment." It has been on this screen for 45 minutes? Is this normal?

On the hub the light at the bottom is white and there are 2 green arrows flashing.

Our hub took almost 2 hours to do the firmware update

Have you checked / moved the wireless channel ?

What router do you have now?
