Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Allegedly Intel have been trialling a fix for a while and rolled it out to manufacturers a few months ago for deployment testing. There has been no news on whether the patch is successful so I suspect any statement one way or the other is mere conjecture.

I spoke with the lead engineer this morning after doing a official complaint, he said my issue is indeed down to the firmware and that a fix is in the works but it can be anywhere between 6-8 weeks and that is not promising anything. Waiting for his boss to ring me back up and I either want a huge discount until the issue is fixed or I will just get a BT business line.

Virgin are currently installing cable in our town. I honestly didn't know they were actively rolling out into "non brand new build areas". I saw the sign and assumed it would be at "some point in the future".
Then, Monday, all the pavements have been dug up and the cable is going in, so they expect us to be live very soon.
I'm still tied into my Vodafone contract for another 12 months, but once that is up then Virgin will be an option for me.

I'll be back into this thread in 11 months time for a Infinity Vs Virgin question :)

I swear to god moving the Virgin is the biggest mistake I've ever made.

Even with my SH2 gaming is horrendous.

My PS4 BO3 sessions are now me jut emptying a clip into people and dying instantly.

I don't know if it's a mixture of oversubscribed services and low player counts in that game but it's horrible and it's driving me insane.

Stick with FTTC unless you want an oversubscribed mess.

My FTTC contract with BT is up in the next month, whilst shopping around I briefly toyed with the idea of VM as you can get 100mbit for a similar price to 80mbit FTTC, then I re-read this thread and decided to give it a miss. Have instead chosen to give Plusnet a shot. Works out around £26 per month over the life of the contract once you factor in cashback and line rental saver and should hopefully be a reasonable connection now it appears their previous issues are resolved.

Shame you didn't give VM a chance based on a thread where only people with issues post in :p

Haha I also read numerous news articles on Think Broadband, the contention issues seem to be far too common and often take far too long to risk 12/18 months of unusable internet with them.

If you are in an oversubscribed area then walk away, if you are not then go for it, you can't touch the speeds on any other service.

Other than the odd blip mines pretty decent.

A lot of areas are decent... when I was in Leighton Buzard my Virgin connection was fantastic, no complaints at all.

In Bedford and combined with the SH3, it was a vile experience... much happier on Zen with 80/20 and stable 6ms ping.

Even in best case scenario though, FTTC has a better ping than any Virgin service - so if you're a gamer, pick FTTC.

Anyone getting fifa issues ps4 ? if i open a pack or try to submit an sbc the game freezes with the flashing orange 17 logo then after 2 mins says you have lost connection to ea servers
is it ea or the hub 3 puma 6 issues ?

Had full house with 200mb installed last Thursday but it only started working yesterday due to a fault in the area.. not a great start.

Anyway i am getting speeds of around 210 on average and a ping of around 10-12, very happy with that after reading all the bad things about the super hub 3 ect. My ps4 is wired to the router and only gets around 65-70mb and 5-6 upload, more than enough but thought would get way more than that.

What were you using for the speed test and ping for 210 down?
