Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Your power levels look perfect, it might just be Virgin doing a bit of maintenance?

edit: you have a lot of Post RS Errors under downstream which are generally bad (but it's normal to get them when the modem boots up), reset them to zero and if you keep getting them report it to Virgin as it could possibly be a damaged cable but it might just be Virgin doing some work.

OK cool, cheers.

Hello all,

I am moving house in about 2 weeks time and after doing a few checks it looks good for Virgin Media, can get up to 200Mbit package (a lot better than the 54Mbit I'm on with sky atm). I haven't dealt with VM before and last time I was in a fibre area was around 15 years ago with NTL.

I phoned them up to ask about routers and the guy was clueless other than knowing it was a SuperHub 3.0 - Do any of you guys know if you can use your own modem/router and if not, what is the SuperHub 3.0 like? I've had a skim over the past few pages and it is all a little confusing.

Anything I should be aware of or should I stay with Sky (all be it very expensive and not that fast)?

Thanks.

My connection (200/20 Gamer) has been all over the place...

Router (Asus RT-N66U) - Modem (SH3) - VM Routing Server (First traceroute IP) - BBC - Google

Well you was right :(
Very high latency and I can't get amazon prime to use HDR anymore. Looks like going back to BT.
It's very rare for them to bother fixing something, they rely on locking people into contracts and inept 1st line to fob people off with 'it's your AV/computer/wireless' etc. Shambles of a company.

I'm going to ask for a SH 2ac or leave with no charges. I did have a VM tech guy come here and he said the SH3 was the problem.

Well they are sending me a SH2 ac in 3 days.

Unfortunately you will receive another SH3.

They don't have the 2ac in stock anymore. I have 3 SH3 sitting here after countless requests for a 2ac.

Other members on here and VM forum have had the same issue when requesting a 2ac.

The lead Engineer told me the issue has been fixed still getting this,

--- www.google.com ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 40% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 14.176/15.439/17.859 ms

I made a complaint to the via the ISP Complaint form
https://www.ispa.org.uk/consumers/complaints-form/

Going to get my contract cancelled and get another service, any have a Company in mind that does great Upload rates?

******* joke this is.

Fire up Steam to play some PUBG and my download speed to 75KB/s.

The connection is fine as I downloaded some files off GOG in next to no time so either there's a steam problem or this Gamer package is ******* **** for actual game related stuff.

I gave them a choice. Either I leave or they get me a SH2 ac. I'll win which ever way.

These latency issues with the SuperHub 3's are they local to a few areas or is it wide spread across the network?

I'm moving to a VM area and was considering going with the 200Gamer option but not sure now..

Very area dependent, go on the virgin media forum and search for your postcode to give some kind of idea about the issues people are having, if any, in your area.
