Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Even if NTL (Virgin Media) have 50mb service comming soon I've really not been impressed with them recently.

Since all the limitations on what users can download what and when and if you do download X you get capped, really annoyed me.

Never used to have any of this until fairly recently and now it seems they have gone NAZI on everyone's connection who downloads anything remotley large. Supposedly because I download during the day I'm in the top 1% of their users and therefore get owned with a cap during the day (not just peak hours) and get limited to like 115kbs for 5 hrs!!!

Thanks Virgin, think when I move house in the near future I WILL NOT be choosing your services :P

Erm you aren't aloud to discus trials on public forums :S

As foe a free upgrade I think not especially since XXL is a new 12month contract

probably more a limit on the newserver. try downloading at 25 mb and doing some other stuff....

still a 4 gig dvd in about 12 mins isnt that bad

Has it kicked off, cancelled my VM account last month gone on to free BT ADSL, been with Telewest/Virgin for 8 years and they wont even offer me a discounted rate, no wonder they are in debt by billions.

Unless they put a lot of cash into upgrading the VM network to compensate for this huge speed increase then surely the network will just cripple once people start downloading at 50mb.

The 50mb tier is on a different system to the rest of the tiers (DOCSIS 3), so it shouldn't cripple speeds for everybody else.

I cannot see how they are going to supply 50 meg reliably if they cant do it for 20mb.

It's going to be the same story, 50mb users not getting their full 50 meg when they should be.

I heard that all tiers but the 2mb one will be moved to this new DOCSIS3.

DOCSIS3 is not supported by the current cable modems used on the 20Mb and lower tiers, so if they did move everyone onto DOCSIS3 it would mean not only supplying modems to 50Mb people (which wouldnt be too bad for VM as there wont be a huge number of people using it), but supplying them to all people, which would be a huge expense.
