those who dont get 20mb just keep complaining, probably a UBR needs upgrading but they wont do anything if they get no complaints.

i was only getting between 1 and 5mb on my 20mb connection and had to complain constantly for a whole year before they fixed it, all sorted now and its 20mb all the time except for capping.

Trouble is you shouldn't have to complain for a year to get what your paying for. I must admit though I had 20mb with VM and it was fine for me always very fast but the above still stands.

ha, just noticed the link above.

would be interested to know how much this service will cost. How is the 20meg service these days as i recall all sorts of complaints when it first rolled out.

its awful as they are over subscribing areas. I get about 300k down speed max in peak times, usually more like 50 - 100kb a sec.

Sometimes itll peak to 1.3 ish meg a second.

Apparently they are updating the local exchange in december so :/

Ive been a happy 20mb user for nearly a year now, ive actually been selected for the 50mb trial in my area, I had the Modem yesterday, and it is indeed like the black one above.Im gonna install it tonight and see how much quicker it is, i'd also like to see how much quicker it is during the STM hours.

Well I got it all set up last night, the modem is sexy, but speeds are not.

Now my newsgroup provider could be limiting things, but im only getting 25meg, as opposed to 18 meg on my 20meg line.

no i know that but at the end of the day they must have shed loads of UBR's that need upgrading hence the amount of complaints about speed, the more you complain the more chance you get your UBR upgraded.

all day usually, a quick change to the modem settings sorts out any slow speeds anyhow. capping is a bit hit and miss, somedays i can get capped dead on 3gb but other times like yesterday i can do 8gb and not get capped.

try downloading some files off this link http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/ as for the newsgroup speed, what newsgroups are you with? can you open some more connections? if your not on virgins newgroups then try those.

Could you post the modem log page / connection info, so we can see if its on their 'new' network or still on the old one?
