Thought id create a VD thread (we have one for Q2 only)

my VD , has starting to ask if i want to load it, every time my PC starts, yes it loads with windows but it never used to ask me, used to load on its own

Also

(see screen shot)

Although it doesn't make a difference (as far as i'm aware)
but i have this profile error saying my network is public

i'm going to assume that's most peoples computers are connected to the internet without changing settings and going "private" I've certainly never changed this in my life

I also regularly get the privacy setting warning, but it doesn't seem to make much difference to the way VD works. Just an annoying popup.

Virtual Desktop just doesn't give me a decent enough image quality for VR games compared to Airlink for me. For some people it works better, but not for me.

i think thats an NVIDIA thing

Nvidia = Airlink
AMD = VD

apparently

No, that's not it at all. Nvidia is better in both. It's just Virtual desktop is the only way to use HEVC on older AMD cards. Because AMD cards suck at H.264.

H.264 used to be the default for Airlink. But, they have changed it lately so that it uses HEVC on RDNA 2 cards and Nvidia cards.

As for which looking better. It really depends on the game. It's just Virtual desktop needs more tricking with to get looking as good as Airlink now.

When you connect to a new wireless network it asks if you want devices to be discoverable. If you say no or don't answer this it makes the connection public. If you say yes, then it makes the connection private. Somethings don't work right if you have the connection set to public.

I've been using Virtual Desktop for a while now and it's always worked great, but recently I discovered two issues:

1. When launching The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners from VD it doesn't clock up gaming hours in Steam (same for any game I think?), so prevents you from reviewing it. However, if you launch this game from Steam it won't load to the initial menus, so you can't play it. The dirty workaround if you want to review it is to launch it from Steam and just sit in the opening title screen for more than 5 minutes so you can clock up the necessary time to be able to review it.

2. When launching Contractors from VD you can't get online function and subsequently multiplayer. If you launch from Steam everything works fine.

I might try Airlink again.

For Contractors you need to launch Steam VR first in airlink too.

Not much of a hassle tbh.

I just gave Airlink a try and Contractors just froze, then it seemed to make a mess of everything and I ended up having to restart the Q2 and my computer. Went back to Virtual Desktop and everything was slick again, but something messed up with my DNS during the first game and I had to do another restart and flush it. Don't think I want to go near that Airlink again! lol

Weird how Airlink works great for some people but is awful for others.

Airlink works great for me, but virtual desktop while it works just looks way more compressed.

Yeah I don't really get it. I use an ASUS TUF Gaming AX5400 dedicated just for VR and the computer and with VD it's showing maximum speeds and connection. Maybe I need to look at the Airlink again, although I find it more of a faff than VD.
