I think it depends on your GPU brand.
Nvidia is better on Airlink, AMD on Virtual Desktop.
Airlink goes up to 200Mbps, but to get that reliably you need a Wifi6 router and be line of sight to it.
Haven't used VD for ages. Is it better or worse than a wired connection nowadays (quest2)?
It'll never be as clear or have as little latency as a wired connection with the bitrate upped to 500. The same is true of Airlink. However it's plenty good enough for many games.
Does anyone have the wired PCVR virtual desktop software, and does it have a 'headlock' mode?
never tried VD wired
but i don't think VD offers headlock mode
i will check the HMD side
but googling seems to suggest yes

I believe there are specific wired and wireless versions of VDYou can use wired or wireless on VD
Sadly, one is a meta app and the wired version is steam. The wired version works brilliantly with reshade/opentrack and pancake games for stereoscopic 3D/VRoh i see
hopefully you don't have to buy both, buy 1 get one free ?
