I must be the only person in the known universe that things buying/renting a cream carpet is the DUMBEST thing in the galaxy. ( 2 space references for added oompf!)

My sister just spent 3k on some woolen monstrosity that needs vacuuming 4 times a day or it looks like a squatt.

utter waste of time. i just have newspaper on my floor so when i wee myself my career can just clean up after me... derp

Good luck with the baby... We have laminate ;)

+1, laminate all through my house too apart from the stairs.

Bear in mind that the OP could be a Muslim as it's customary in their culture to take off your shoes as you enter your house. I don't know anyone else who take their shoes off - we use the outside doormat then the inside doormat and walk on.

Yeah they should feel free to trample over my £25 a square yard carpet in the shoes that were not 10 seconds ago traipsing through the worlds crap to get to my front door.

should be easily cleanable for that. polyprop or wool?

just say take shoes off. i had a beige carpet. never again! do you think your son wont **** it up? :)

OP clearly isn't getting enough sleep :)

We bought a carpet cleaning 6 months before my daughter was born and all I can say is it makes for stress free parenting! She can spill what she likes, suggest the OP considers this :)

Just wish we could have laminated it but didn't have the money (large room, carpet cleaner can do entire house and furnishings etc.)

we have hard floors everywhere downstairs in our house. problem is its not easy for kids to walk or crawl on, initially anyway.

slowed our son down walking and crawling over carpet IMO, as its so slippery underfoot. still, our floors should last 25 years whereas carpet, maybe 5! :)

sure, cheap laminate doesnt last 25 years but if you pay a bit more for high quality stuff it lasts much longer and looks so much better.

porcelain tiles in kitchen will probably out last me!

I'd rather a bit of dirt on my carpet than some guys cheesy sweat.

timber flooring in front reception, quarry tiles in back reception but i'd still rather people took their shoes off. i wouldn't want any stains on my nice rugs.

why dont you just put some wood chips down ? you can get them from B&Q pretty cheap, its not as expensive as laminate and has a more natural feel

I'm imagining actual wood chips. Like you put in flower beds or chilrens play areas. Wouldn't have to Hoover it at least!

it's probably mid range but I didn't think anybody used yards anymore so who knows. Our stair carpet was <£10 sq m and I had to hammer down all the grippers to stop them sticking into my feet.

Sand is quite good for flooring.. you wouldn't ever have to* vacuum again

* be able to

I wasn't sure if he was being ironic or not. That's cheap isn't it? (I am not being ironic, for clarity)

I just picked a figure out of the air.

I havent bought carpet in ages.
