Visitors to your home.

This I hadn't even considered, but it's now item no. 107 on my list of reasons not to have a baby. My mrs is going to have to make a pretty compelling argument when the time comes :p

I tell anyone that comes into my home that if they don't respect my japanese mannerisms and put on the slippers provided before they enter then I will get in touch with their boss and report them for disrespecting my household.

wh what???? As long as they wipe their feet whats the issue?

This.

Ask them not to provide any care for your son. Problem solved!

This.

Also, cream carpet and a new born? Good luck with that. It'll be brown from poo, yellow from wee, a myriad of colours from vomit (my fave is cottage cheese)

Also what landlord rents out a house with cream carpet? Madness.

Shoes in the house is very, very odd, and I really really don't like it at all. Wearing shoes is so much worse than walking around in socks or slippers anyway....

These people have probably been working all day and have sweaty feet, if it was me I would rather they kept them on tbh.

On the other side if someone asked me to take my shoes off I would tell them no for the same reason.

I don't like slippers. Don't like walking round in socks or bare feet. Thus I often have my trainers on. Obviously I don't keep dirty shoes on when walking round the house. Visitors can keep their shoes on as long as they've been rubbed hard on the doormat.

Glad i do not have children, i can enjoy the warmth and comfy feeling on my feet that carpet provides :D

More on topic, ask them to take there shoes off, how on earth are they to know it is needed unless instructed. if they refuse then refuse them entry, if they are fine with it then this is a non issue surely? if you have wood floor and asked me to take my shoes off i would refuse to come in or at least ask you to provide proof your house is clean :D

Carpet in general isn't family friendly. Wood floors ftw.

yep, done mine head to toe in oak boards, only the stairs have carpet, and not in cream.

i always wonder with peeps like this, and the mentality behind it all,

'dont sit on my leather sofa with jeans on !!!'

'take your shoes of, the farkin carpet !!!!!'

'dont hug me you'll crease my shirt'

is your life that sterile, really?

let people be that come to your house, especialy the peeps coming to mind your newly birthed wife,

and when your carpet gets dirty? go buy a cleaner from B&Q, and steam clean it, you can pay £25/metre, then youe can buy a cleaner.

and a top tip from a man with 3 kids, when that baby of yours is crawling, your carpet will be a bomb site, and the bugs it will pass to your baby is unreal.

hardwood floors FTW indeed ;)

I'd rather a bit of dirt on my carpet than some guys cheesy sweat.

And this is why I have a load of guest slippers by the door. I like my cream carpet, lovely and cosy, stops the lounge echoing like a box and also adds an extra layer of insulation over the flooring so helps keep the house warm!

Asking people not to wear shoes in your home is just so uncivilised. Just plebs and uncultured people do it. What next, take your clothes off? :p

We have a shoes off policy in our home. Then again my and her family always have - it's a cultural thing I guess. Quite happy to tell people to remove their shoes.

I guess if we had wooden floors I'd be less fussed, but I just don't like external shoes inside the home - it's dirty.

This - they could have trod in dog turd, for example. Even wiping their feet well still won't clean the soles properly. :D

I like a no-shoes policy indoors, it feels a bit more "Zen", if that makes any sense (can't find the right word!).
