Visitors to your home.

And this is why I have a load of guest slippers by the door. I like my cream carpet, lovely and cosy, stops the lounge echoing like a box and also adds an extra layer of insulation over the flooring so helps keep the house warm!

ewww sharing sweaty slippers!! :( Id refuse to wear something that contains other peoples sweat!.

As regards midwives workmen etc you will generally find that their employers will not let them remove footwear for insurance purposes,

Whenever I have workmen round they put protective sheeting on the floor anyhow so it's not really an issue! :)

No chance of a midwife visiting my place either so no problem there!

Bear in mind that the OP could be a Muslim as it's customary in their culture to take off your shoes as you enter your house. I don't know anyone else who take their shoes off - we use the outside doormat then the inside doormat and walk on.

It's hardly a muslim-only thing (what?) - my family has always insisted on shoes off by the door, as do most of my friend's families when I visit.

Ahem, the slippers I have are machine washable and are cleaned on a regular basis. I'm not an animal. :p

Besides, the regular visitors to my place keep their own pairs by the door! :D

Wooden floor is horrible, winter time it feels so cold and it looks so impersonal. My brother has it and when we go round there it's a nightmare, kids fall over and bang their heads, they throw stuff like toys etc and I worry aboutr leaving marks etc.

Carpets FTW, tv shows that make people think they are modern, with it and "IN" should be turned off ;)

99% of people don't require you to remove your shoes to enter their house so why would they just do it without you asking them? If they did remove them after you asked, then I really don't understand the problem...

Baby + Cream carpets :D That's going to go well.

Stop worrying about visitors wearing shoes, you'll soon have more important things to worry about. Our two year old emptied an entire carton of orange juice over the sofa last week.

I work for the ambulance service, we're not allowed to remove our boots, they're PPE that we have to wear. Also, when I go into a strangers' house, I don't want to get my bare feet all over their carpet that may or may not be clean!

I take my shoes off outside the front door here, but that's just a cultural thing, anyone who's spent any length of time over here will do that automatically. It's only westerners in the flat, and we don't have carpets, you just start to do it without thinking.

Hard floor is only good for dodging stains and first impression 'wow' factor. It looks good at first but I prefer carpet now because I find it more warm and inviting. Plus I've managed to put some dents in my laminate flooring. :(

Much prefer carpet to hard floors, kids and pets, couldn't care less, carpet gives a home a far warmer feel...same with sofas, much prefer fabric to leather..................sadly i have hard wood floors and leather sofas, hate them but can't afford to replace either :(

EDIT: got my 3 seater electric recliner new for £100 though so i guess i shouldn't complain :D
