It's the same version as the MSDN version, so it's fully working, will be active for a full year after you install it or not after 30th April 2007 (IIRC - to stop you from constantly 're-using' it year after year!

Same as Windows XP, it'll auto-update if you allow it, and I've had my version about 2 weeks and already it's had 2 small updates.
Doubt you'll be seeing the download till around 2am though, and I'd seriously recommend you try the "Upgrade Advisor" tool to ensure you're system is compatible. We've 2 PC's here in the office which will NOT run the software at all, and they're of a 'moderate' spec (512Mb RAM, 2.1Ghz Processor, 128Mb GC).
