vista installation problem

i had the same issue with an asrock board (eventually got it working but then vista wouldnt boot and bsod'd me lol)

realistically the drivers on your cd should be fine. try and search through your cd for the appropriate drivers as files using explore.

i assume its vista 64-bit windows?

have you set the sata ports in the bios. You need to make sure they are not set to raid

I had exactly the same problem with Vista 32bit on a rig i built for someone last week. The mobo was a 775 Foxconn 946GZ7MA-8KRS2H (Intel 946GZ+ICH7R). I updated the bios to the latest version, got the latest drivers and created a floppy and there was no way i could get the damn thing installed. Exactly the same problem, required drivers not detected. In the end i gave up and stuck XP on it instead. At least that works. Poxy Vista is still sitting in my drawer. Might stick it on the bay to get rid of it.

I have Vista on a Gigabyte P35 board without any driver issues. I connected the optical drives to the purple connectors and the hard drives to the orange ones. It was probably the most straight forward windows installation I have ever done

To update the bios without an OS installed you need to create a floppy or maybe a usb stick. I used a floppy as it was easier. Should be something about how to do it in your mobo's manual or manufacturers website.

As you can see a couple of post up, I had the same problem exactly. It was also a sata hdd and an IDE optical drive. In the end i gave up and stuck XP on it and dumped Vista in the drawer where it still sits. I will be most interested if you find a work round for this.

I don't have a floppy drive so may have to try the USB route. I'm getting extremely tempted to throw vista out of the window!!

its the satas that are causing the problem not the IDE! and I have got a step forward. I set them in the purple ports and enabled raid in the lower part of the BIOS screen not the top one and suddenly vista recognises the driver BUT then went an told me that it couldn't verify something or other and restarted so am going to try again now and get the full msg if it does it again.
