Vista keeps on crashing...

yeah I do have an old hard drive I was gonna try, but it doesn't work on my old computer (it did, but it broke), which is why it's spare, so it won't work on my new pc either.

I am using 64-bit vista, and all my drivers are the 64-bit versions.

I'm not trying to dual boot anything.

everything has been reseated (gpu, ram, cpu), and all cables unplugged and plugged back in again, and swapped with others were possible.

I'll get some links of where I got drivers from sorted for you, and i currently don't have a windows install anymore, as i reinstalled, but it crashed half way through and I got a BSOD. so I cannot get a dxdiag report.

nope, none are bent, there all fine.

like i said I can't currently get a speedfan screenie, but as soon as i get vista installed proply again I will.

And no I don't have a spare pci-e gpu, only a couple of agp ones. my mate's got a ati x1600 but it's in his maine system which he uses everyday, so I'm doubtfull he'll let me borrow it.

Btw which port is the hdd connected to and which is the odd connected to, they should be in the orange sata ports not the purple ones. This if for both and all sata devices as you use one or the other i think.

there all in the orange ports, hdd is in ide master channel 0, and odd is in ide master channel 1, acording to the bios.

Hmm i checked the processing error in ** screenshot above and found this.

http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_...xception_Processing_Message_0xc0000013_with_p

Can you check ** drive letter assignments and that the hdd and odd isnt comflicting.

I'll to have a look at this tomorow as I'm shattered now i need some sleep, sorry.

About the odd as master 1, can u use a slave instead?

and I certainly can use it as a slave, 0 slave or 1 slave? i didn't realise having sata drives as master and slave made a difference, I thought that only applied to IDE drives.

im off to sleep, i'll post back on how some of you're suggestions go tomorow. night.

thanks for all the replies guys,

through out today I have been trying out all the stuff you have said, and whenever I installed windows, it installs succesfully. But then when I reboot my PC for whatever reason It doesn't load into windows, it just stays as a black screen, it does it when trying to enter safe mode too, and when starting from last known good configuration.

I've installed Vista several times today with various ram settings, ram sticks taken out, changed the bios from 64-bit to 32-bit mode, but I'm still getting the same problem I described above.

I also thought he was going to try a different HDD, infact, i thought he already had tried a different HDD

well I did say I was going to, but i didn't realise that the only spare one I have is broke, it contracted some virus on it from my old pc, and damaged the hdd.

My old PC (one that works) does have a 500GB and a 80GB hdd, so I was going to try and stuff everything on the 80gb one onto the 500gb so I could use the 80gb one for my new pc, but the 500gb, one has only 15gb spare space, and the 80gb one is full, I've tryed getting rid of things but there's still not enough room.

Hmm interesting.

From the 8800 topic u posted.

This indicates a MFT issue. The master file table. If this is what the problem is all the time which exactly describes all the probs ** having. Then we need to find out whats corrupting it and how to fix it somehow.

** not using norton auto-protect are you as i read turning it off helped. (just from a post i found using google).

Most places i read says run chkdisk and it might fix it, then again might not.

Source site for info below. http://www.ntfs.com/quest14.htm

Hmm so lets think..

1. It could be a drive letter conflict or paths conflict (happened to bro once two c: drives it had similar problems as ** describing now i think about it.

2. It could be the hdd

3. Just the mb in some way.

4. Screw it wheres the sledge hammer. :p

Hmm could give this a read

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Advanced_NTFS_Boot_and_MFT_Repair

well my hdd is the C drive and my dvd drive is the D drive, well that's what it defaults to on windows anyway.

I'm leaning towards faulty hardware, I can't seem to get through to scan, there always engaged and arn't replying to emails.

Did you try testdisc or whatever it was that supose to fix the mft.

Also can u photo ** bios settings for cpu, tho be ace if u can photo all of the bios screens so we can check each setting ourselves see whats up.

Also disconect ** odd then boot into windows, see if u get probs with anything just to rule out the drive paths issue. No usb devices either plz while testing.

I certainly can photo all the bios screens,

and I did run checkdisk, didnt help though.

and I don't have any usb devices except my mouse is a USB mouse, i can cope with just a keyboard though.

i'll have a go disconnecting the odd when booting into windows.

the drive names is not the main thing it was the paths so needed to do admin tools and drive managment to see them.

u emailed gigabyte btw asked for help from them, i would. tell em ** hardware if its all compatable and recommended bios settings off em, etc.

yeah that's a good idea I'll email gigabyte,

I'll have to do drive management once I get a decent install of windows.

right sorry I been really busy these last few days.

but I've tryed all of the above, but I can't seem to get it to boot into windows after it's been installed, and I've tryed it loads of times, it won't even boot in safe mode.

I havn't got around to taking pics of everything in the bios yet, but I will do asap.

After me emailing the errors I was getting to scan, they have decided to RMA, the motherobard, ram, hard drive, and cpu.

Yantorsen.

Any news, or have u rma the stuff now.

they came to pick up the stuff for the RMA last night, just waiting for news from ****. They say it should take about a week to do the testing, and then they've got to send me it all back, hopefully with something replaced, so it will probably be a week or two.

right my dad went into town, and got it from there, and had to prove who he was it seems they had tryed posting it to my next door neighbour, but they wern't in. aparently it was an agency driver

any way I've got it all back now, it's all fine, except the hard drive was faulty, so it's been replaced.

yanto.

Just red the entire thread and from a few pages back I have to say I was pretty sure it was a HDD problem. At first I thought RAM up until page 3 or so and then I was certain it was your HDD.

Glad it all worked out in the end. Hopfully.

yeah, I've just put it all altogethor, and I'm just installing Windows, so far so good :)
