Vista RC2 Released

is anyone here using the media center bit of RC2??

if you are, what video codecs to you have installed and do your divx and xvid files work ok?
 
as per my other thread, i've installed vista 5744 in virtual pc beta 7 (running on XP) and so far everything i have thrown at it works:

virtualdub (did some encoding in there - fine)
divx 6.4 - works fine.
ffdshow
getright
megui/x264
media player classic and the various 'aternative' codecs
o&o defrag
acronis softwares
steam - going to test CS:S tonight in vpc - should be fun :D
firefox 2 and plugins.

the only thing that doesnt work at all so far is nod32 and eset have said they havent got a clue on a release date at the moment :(

then there is kerio pers firewall which installed then caused vista to blue screen repeatedly :eek: hope there is an update for it soon :)

p.s is it worth going for the 5840 version over the 5744?

5840 nope,

you cant activate, its a pre rtm build and the cpp keys do not work with it.

From rumors going around their on 5920 now. Cannot find any hard proof though.

The rumor is also that 6000 will be rtm.

I've tried to download RC2 but the site only shows RC1. Where can I download RC2?
 
Word of advice: As I just found out you cannot install this to USB/Firewire drives.

I downloaded RC2 but when I enter my serial it says RC1 in the terms. Is this normal?
 
RC1 was very thoroughly tested and has more general support as it was a big release. RC2 was just to a relative handful of people, and it hadn't gone through such rigorous testing - this is even evident in this thread by comments of people going back to RC1 because of a bug or bugs that rendered RC2 unuseable to them.
 
Users Folder...

Installed RC2 and I am quite impressed. Not sure of any MAJOR improvements over XP but as it will become the norm OS for home user's new pc's I need to get to grips with it.

One question, the new users folder layout is great but how do I move my entire users folder (not indiviudal music, pics, etc.) to my other drive?

I don't like having program and user files on the same drive.
 
well, got around to trying steam but it wont load any games. just egg timers then gives up

trying to install oblivion at the mo and see how that goes

anyone managed to play half life 2/CS:S etc on RC2?

I have RC1 installed. My 3Dmark2001 score has dropped from 28000 to 18000. Is this normal?

EDIT: Everyone probably knows this but CA Antivirus is free for 12 months for Vista

I get a black and white shaddow effect on any video played in Media Centre, Live TV is fine tho. The same videos work fine in Media Player 11 on the same pc with Vista RC2 installed.
