Vista Setup 'Installing Features'

I'm installing vista on a new build pc and I get to the 'Installing Features' stage and it doesnt seem to be doing anything, been like this for over an hour now, any suggestions?

Sounds like it's locked up...Have you tryed restarting the PC....

But it be best to start from the being with a quick format again...As you don't want any chance of errors in a fresh install..

My PC takes about 30 to 45mins from start to finish to install vista

I've tried restarting, now it doesnt even give me a vista install screen, just loads with the green vista bar, the screen changes to the install colour and nothing more.

Make sure your CPU & memory are not overclocked at all...

try removing the sound card and all but 1 stick of ram

Make sure your PC is working (stress test the RAM and stuff) then install it again.

Have you manually set the Maufacturers stated Memory Frequency, Timings and Voltages?

i've tried different sticks of RAM, i've also defaulted the bios. Still no luck.

Defaulting the BIOS dosent always mean it will set everything to stock settings expecially your memory.

If you havent go check and if they are not set them correctly.

Set your memory to 2t timings as well...

Ok, I'll try that, currently I'm on the 'installing features' section, I can move the cursor and the X button is highlightable, so no screen freeze, and the hdd indicator is flashing, showing activity. Think I'll leave it running overnight, see if anything happens by the morning. If not I'll try the timings.

Just another note, after failing the Vista install the 2nd time, I tried to boot from XP and it said no harddrive found :S Altho the hdd is available in the bios, boot menu and from the Vista installation option.

Tried again, setting the timings to 2T. Still nothing, hangs in the same place. Doing my head in now, not much options left to me.

Do you have an IDE DVD drive? Have heard of people having problems installing Vista using SATA DVD drives on MS forums.

Have you run memtest86 on your sticks of RAM? (don't install using 4GB, use 2GB - install OS, MS updates, then add other 2GB)

I presume you're loading SATA drivers at the beginning of the install too.

I'm having similar issues (you've described some of the problems I've had), waiting on Crucial to sort dodgy RAM out atm.

I have a SATA dvd drive, I was unaware of loading any drivers during the installation. I bought an OEM samsung drive so I didnt get any sort or driver disc, just the dvd writing software. Any idea where I can get hold of the driver?
