***VISTA SP1 RELEASED TO GENERAL PUBLIC***

sp1 didnt show, or dl to me? how can i get it now? and is there any older updates i might need to uninstall?

edit - just tried some registry edit and it did nothing =\
edit2 - some more registry editing and a couple of manually downloaded updates = it shows up now :)
edit3- still says beta =\ idk if to install it or not.
edit4 - decided not to install for now.

It's rtm - it's good to go.

also it reset the days till activation to 30, from 14?

When it is finally released, are they likely to release a package update download where as one file which i can just install after a reinstall of the operating system. (I remember hearing that you won't be able to integrate it into a new CD...correct?)

Also - what is SP1 supposed to fix (mainly) and does it bring the performance level on par with XP?

microsoft will bring the downloadable sp1 exe files maybe next mouth..

one big performance boost you'll see is the copying files.. i heard xp is still faster in many things...

From what I gather, the Service Pack that many have been seeing on their windows update was indeed the one you download if you have the registery patch. So yes, it is a completely legitimate RTM, non-beta, very much final service pack. However, it seems microsoft made an inadvertent error in releasing it to everyone for download for a short period of time.

I have no idea whether SP1 is still available. The likelyhood is that they have now withdrawn it and those unlucky enough to have missed the oppurtunity will have to wait until mid-march as advertised.

EDIT: And for those worrying about the 'BETA' description for the service pack - 'A company representative also stated that the version pushed out is the final RTM version even though it may carry a beta designation.'

I, being one of the lucky ones, have SP1 installed on all my setups of Vista, from Premium Upgrade x86 and Premium upgrade 64 to Ultimate 64 bit. I did mine via the Automatic update Iso. file which is on MS Technet Plus. The Update is auto-selective for the version of Vista you are using. A nice DVD. I would have uploaded the version to a freeware site somewhere if I thought it would have helped those whom are desperate for it.
And yes it is the RTM version and build tested as well as Hotfix tested. All I am being offered now on Windows Update is Optional updates. Personally I have nothing to gain by giving it to someone else because it is not an item that is for sale. But I have to provide solutions to users with large amounts of RAM installed on their 64 bit PC's and are part of a consortium I run for Developing and hardware.
If companies like OCUK wanted to they would release the SP1 package via the forum as there is no illegality attached to its distribution. As long as it is the full untampered version with the digitel signature of MS and prequisite that it carries the same checksum as it carries on the Technet Website.

mine works fine. try re-installing the game perhaps? or just delete the gta_sa.set file from \doucuments\gta san andreas files (warning: you'll lose any custom control/display/sound settings :p)

Vista 32 and no sign of SP1. I thought it was supposed to be in mid-March or I am thinking of something else.

There are number of updates people with 64 but have that I don't. I presume some updates only apply to the 64 bit version. m
