***VISTA SP1 RELEASED TO GENERAL PUBLIC***

they had a list, and most of the prgorams most ppl dont use

i didnt see anything like msn, games, typical every apps on there

Hardly anything on that list of software that I doubt will affect many on here. Maybe Zone Alarm but thats about it

I’m not surprised about ZoneAlarm, they didn’t manage to get a Vista version out until about June/July last year so they are on par for the course with SP1.

What was the problem with that update prior to the sp1 launch? ive had no problems with my vista yet, ive got Home premium 32 bit. no sign of sp1 for me atm.

Looks like the Vista SP1 update for 64 bit users was a bit of a mistake....although it was the RTM version.

"A build of SP1 was posted to Windows Update and it was inadvertently made available to a broad group," Microsoft said in a statement. "The build was intended only for our more technically advanced testers, and was meant to only be offered to those with a specific registry key set on their PC. For general availability, we are still planning to make SP1 broadly available in the mid-March timeframe."

I haven't changed anything in my registry & never had the beta service pack installed but still got the SP1 via windows update.

Ive installed it, and so far Im utterly impressed. Snappier, and totally stable. I had never changed the registry, or ever installed a beta SP1, yet it still showed on Windows Update. I think MS are telling us porkys.

Ditto.

I'm impressed too. Used to have an error with uguru every time I shut comp down. Now that's gone and snappier and totally stable too.

Bah, its not showing up for me.

Still, I'll just have to wait. It's not like there are any imediate problems I need to fix.

i think that statement means the updater was allowed to give it to a certain set of reg keys, as a sort of mini test. those who got it were obviously part of that reg code set.

only thing that explains it really as i havent done a BETA or done any reg changes either

sp1 didnt show, or dl to me? how can i get it now? and is there any older updates i might need to uninstall?

edit - just tried some registry edit and it did nothing =\
edit2 - some more registry editing and a couple of manually downloaded updates = it shows up now :)
edit3- still says beta =\ idk if to install it or not.
edit4 - decided not to install for now.
