Vista successor in 2009

Well if that's the case I hope this Windows 7 uses this 'formal method'.

So why buy a broken OS?

Because broken doesn't necessarily mean non-functional. XP works very well at what it does, but there are some things that should have been done differently from the start (like kernal isolation), some things that made sense at the time and now do not (the way having lots of free memory in XP is considered good is an example of this), and so on.

Have a read through these, they explain many of the changes made for vista, and why they were done.

If you want windows 7 before 2020, and for it's cost to not be in 7 figures, I wouldn't hope for that.

Dolph, your such an optimist.:D It'd be a lot longer then 2020, considering Vista cost $10Bn, I'd expect it to be a lot bigger then 7 figures (unless I'm being an arse and you mean retail price).

Either way, it's not going to happen. Unless we have a new reality where it's also coded in Java ;)

I meant 7 figures per licence. :)

It would also be horrifically out of date given how early in the process specs would have to be finalised.

So do Apple, and we won't even start on Linux :D

Hey no fair, Linux is a totally different and constantly evolving beast. :D It's never going to be a mainstream OS since as Burnsy said it has 'features' which makes it more suitable to users who wish to understand (and repair!) their OS rather than just use it.

So as much as I dislike Vista (lots of reasons, most of which I am apparently 'wrong' about, and I cba to go through that again) it should never be compared to Linux.

And the old quote about Apple runs something along the lines of "If OSX is so good and never crashes why do they have support forums?" Can't say I've ever used it other than briefly so I really couldn't comment.

I'm sorry but as much as I hate Vista (and I do with a passion I can assure you) ME was a million times worse, it wasn't even alpha quality and should never have been released.

Just to qualify that I have tried it :) I'm not knocking it for the majority of users, but for me it is not an option (at the moment).

I don't know how anybody can say Vista is like ME,infact I'll say Vista is probably the best OS Microsoft have made so far and that includes XP,as a XP and Vista user myself I definitely prefer Vista for many reasons.

Getting back on topic about Windows 7 I can't see it being released before 2010 at the earliest(Microsoft are well known for delays), and even then I don't expect it to be in a perfect state.
Vista by 2010 will be in a very stable and mature market, also how are they going to handle drivers in Windows 7,are they going to be Windows 7 only drivers, will they have problems with older hardware etc.. we shall see.

Microsoft officially announced that Windows 7 will be integrated with their recent TECH-NIFICANT Windows Surface Operating Structure, thus allowing Windows 7 to be WAY MORE than your standard operating system. Touch Screen Monitors will basically be a MUST to get the full potential of Windows 7...thus making the tech-standard "mouse" almost useless for basic operation.

This is the OFFICIAL Windows 7: Codename Vienna
