As I write this I am holding for level 2 Tech Support at VM, as my speed has been managed.

At 10:01 am today my speed dropped to 4.57 MEG from the ususal 18.67 Meg. Level 1 Tech Supoort has told me that as I am a heavy user (their words) I am being manged for the next 24 hours !!!

When I pointed out their own policy and that I should not be managed until I have downloaded 6 GB from 10 am onwards, I should receive full speed.

Phone call finished and they have admitted that at 10:00:02 (2 seconds past 10) I was managed!!!

I have asked them to remove my modem from the UBR and re-instate to resolve the issue, and the wont do it as that means the counters for my modem will be re-set and anything I've downloaded between getting managed and now would not be counted!!!! How pety. I have been giuven £10 credit on my bill for my trouble whilst they investigate this issue, but level 2 tech support say this is not an isolated case as they are being inundataed with messges via the newsgroups regarding it.

Anyone else suffering !

EDIT: VM has just phoned me back and asked me to check my download speed at 3 pm !!!!!!

Lol,

Isolated case ??

Reason i dropped cable 20meg and gone to o2 adsl lol

They doing it to everyone chief imo, Just in some areas they either can't fully do it or there's very little need too (very low amount of consumers in that area)

Been having that cwap for months even when modem was unplugged for weeks or days at a time and no way was i using the limits up lol

Now i'm only 4 to 5meg less speed than my 16meg (20meg conx at best) now i'm with o2 adsl for half cost i was paying for cable

A petition was took to downing street about oversubscribed isp's milking and not giving service or capping to allow more onboard, I see that got the cold shoulder he he

Face it ............ "NTL has finally confirmed that it is to acquire Virgin Mobile as part of a master plan to create a giant communications company to take on pay TV outfit Sky and incumbent telco BT. The deal values Virgin Mobile at £962.4m - almost £150m more than was originally rejected by the Virgin Mobile board in December last year.

As part of the deal, NTL (which is already merging its operations with Telewest) has entered into a 30 year exclusive brand licence with Virgin Enterprises Limited to use the Virgin brand for the cableco's consumer business"

VM now need to make money to pay for their 30year Brand-Name Deal, Best way is as they're doing

Longrun though hopefully they'll go peaks up and fold

My two penneth worth

I noticed an immediate drop in speed the moment that it entered managing times, without even downloading anything that day, needless to say I'm not with Be.

I know they did have a fault with the CISCO software that controls the management system, but was assured that it was fixed!!

Guess not

I get managed when they see fit even if I've only just turned my computer on for the day & watched 2 or 3 HD trailers off apple. I got managed for a week straight cause they said I was a heavy user :/

Sureley this is in contraventuon of the contract between VM and their customer?

PS - My Speed went back to full speed at 3:01 pm. Waiting on the 9 pm management time to kick in now. If I get capped at 9pm without downloading anything, then I'll be back on the phone again.

im on VM 20mb broadband been with them now for about 6 months.

From day 1 my speeds have varied and ive never had a steady transfer rate.
sometimes i will get the full 20mb,from certain sites of course, other times especially peak times my speeds are all over the place and sometimes crawl to under 1mb!.,worth mentioning that all my downloading is done after 12 midnight and i never go above the 3GB limit between peak times. The simple fact is VM are oversubscribeing there networks for sure and they see fit to manage ppl speeds when they like even though most customers keep to there so called traffic management policy.
i have the XL package which includes my landline and 2 set top boxes and 20mb broadband, it works out that i only pay like £6-7 extra a month to have the 20mb broadband so its worth while me keeping it,otherwise for sure i would get shot of VM.

Pfft.. Think yourself lucky! Our 20meg line hasn't gone over 5meg for about three quarters of a year (not through being managed)! Phoned up to complain and they just said that there wasn't a lot they could do as the area is over subscribed..

there customer service is one of the worst i have experienced, you get put though to a call centre in india or thereabouts, they have poor technical knowledge imo and always put the problem down to your machine funny that. i have gave up ringing up VM its dosent solve anything and when i put the phone down im highly strung waste of time

Face it, In the UK you cannot get anything done against an ISP

They will say the T&C's have changed etc or you're in breech of these etc

They are Un-Touchable and they must realise this

When you get that fedup of paying for something you're not getting just jump ship

agree with what your saying 100%,but its not that easy for some ppl who have a 12 month contract to bail out.
from past experience of getting out of a broadband contact, its a lot of hassle but eventually you will get out if you keep on to the isp.

Currently 9:35 pm and still getting full speed. According to there STM policy I should not not get managed until after I d/load 3 GB after 10 am tommorrow - lets wait and see shall we.

Well my area is covered by Warwick (only got tv deal now and that's going soon)

I think at first many years ago when NTL was formed it came under Coventry area

Be good to see a pattern as to areas etc that deffo get capped 100% and others that maybe don't !

I mainly like others got capped even if modem was off fullstop, Others seem to be getting no slowdons at all

You can equate anything in life if you wanted to, But i'll be staggered (polite wording) if i'm willing to pay x amount for an x amount to be limited when not breaking/using any limitations whilst still having to pay full price for x amount (hope this makes sense lol)

A bit like ordering a pint for say £2 (dun't drink as such so dunno cost of a pint in a pub now) and because of the time of day the bartender tips 3/4 of it away and you recieve 25% of what you paid for, Yet at other times you get a full pint

If others could chime in with their areas and if they get blanket capped/managed etc it might shed some light onto where in the UK is real bad for VM users

Seriously those 12month contracts mean nothing most of the time, friends in work are always cancelling their deals with ISP's .. they phone up and complain about a service, and then when they get nowhere, they simply, say fine, im canceling my service ! which is usualy greated with a "you have a 12month contract" and they say "ill cancel DD because you aren't solving my problem, they cancel it and thats usualy the end of it.

I often ask how on earth they get away with it, as ive never tried, but one guys has done it 4 times with various ISP's and more again with phone companies. They never do anything, as long as you make a complaint 1st and then if they do nothing, cancel DD.

May not be best legal advise but it works for a few of my friends :)

I have never got the managed connection on me and i am downloading upwards of 10gb a day sometimes!

I think they only take a big notice on those in high subscription areas

Well the limit it 6GB 10am - 3pm and then a happy hour and then 3GB from 4 - 9 until you get capped.
