Vostro 1500 with 1680*1050 15.4 inch screen

It won't be my main pc. I'll mostly be using the machine for browsing and playing a few games (WoW, CSS, C&C) and probably some design stuff so 1440 is looking like the sensible choice.

If ordering direct from Dell, just make sure you ring up and haggle like crazy. They do give much beter deals this way

a 8600GT, 2.0 processor, 2gb ram and the 1440 screen can be had for under £650, not sure what the price is that comes up on dell site atm but i got mine quite a while ago for just over £600 with some haggling

I've just tried that config (currently with free upgrade to 3GB) and It comes in at £544 + vat and del. :eek:

I think I might need two!!

This was close to the £800 mark when i got this back in Sep, managed to talk them down to the £640 i paid

so haggling does work.

If I opt for the 9 cell battery how badly does it stick out from the machine? and I can't find an option to buy an extra battery, is this not possible? as I read somewhere there is an option to remove the dvd drive and replace it with an extra battery.

A friend of mine has just seen the 3gb got the price of 2gb on memory and is rather annoyed. See, he just bought a vostro 1400 which is being delivered tomorrow, the sales lady refused to budge on price but as he wanted it he bought it. Anyway, she said if he didn't order it that day then the special offers would be gone(free HDD upgrade and free shipping). Now he's seen the free memory upgrade on top of the previous offers, do you think they would do anything if he called them up and told them about his annoyance? He's thinking of sending it back asap and then reordering another as delivery time isn't much of an issue, he's just feeling slightly screwed over by a pushing sales lady.....

Would like to know how larger the 9 cell battery is too. I hope its not too much bigger.

So tempted by a 1920x1200 17" Vostro.
It's sub 1k as well. Sadly, nVidia graphics powering it, but still a cracking spec.

Couple of pics of the 9-cell battery on my 1500. Definitely recommended by me. Amazing run time and its very unobtrusive. Hardly notice it at all

It does'nt stick out that far. Plus with anything else connected in the back, it extra bit of the battery does'nt matter anyway.

I went for the 9 cell battery as well and glad I did.... don't even notice the extra bit when I'm using the machine.

ordered a 1700 with 1440*900. decided 1900*1200 on a 17 would be nuts (my pc has a 1680x1050 at 22" and i still find text small)
