VPN recommendations?

It all depends on the server and the type of traffic. Cheapest current offer is about 83p for a year (or life depending on what you read) via StackSocial's pay what you want offer (anonvpn.io). I've tested it and it's capable of about 80% of my line speed at home which is what most of the others I use (Pure, Tiger, PIA) manage.

For basic use eg you'd prefer your browsing history not to be searchable by a whole swathe of organisations with little or no judicial oversight as it's an invasion of your privacy, then it's probably OK.

However if you're living in/visiting a state controlled by a totalitarian regime that outlaws free speech and any form of dissent/access to the rest of the world's media under pain of imprisonment and torture, or are plotting to take over the world, then i'd possibly suggest a) reconsider your life choices and b) look at other options.

So the UK in about 5 years at the rate it's going? :(

PIA or Cyberghost work fine.

The best speeds I've found is that if you buy a VPS for around £3.50 a month and install OpenVPN on it, but you only get 1 IP so less anonymity if that is a priority.

just switched to express vpn, their app will automatically connect on windows start up and reconnect if connection is lost (like when computer wakes from sleep)
on top of that, works with netflix and amazon (only on certain servers though).

Now i don't have to disable it when watching amazon/netflix can just leave it connected.

Do any VPN's work reliably with watching US Netflix? I'm with PureVPN at the mo and it's a no go.

as a few posts above vpnexpress is working (as long as you pick teh right servers, had to do online chat to find that out)

also pure vpn says it should work. if you use this server in dedicated mode.

and follow this guide

only found that out when i went cancel pure vpn today. although i prefer vpnexpress software, so not going back anyway, assuming vpnexpress is stable and fast.

I use AirVPN, they had a sale on just over the Crimbo period. They seem to be pretty well rated and have worked well so far.
I have configured my Netgear R7000 router, using a Asus Merlin firmware, to direct PC's and tablets etc through the VPN and dumb boxes like TV's etc just use the WAN. My desktop PC uses their desktop client as that can't go through the router due to the CPU on consumer routers not being up to the task of dealing with a fast connection and VPN.

One of the few apps to be lauded in the study was F-Secure Freedome VPN, made by the Finnish security company F-Secure.

Worth a read

My PureVPN disconnected last night whilst downloading Torrents. Luckily they are for work so no worries but that would be a worry if I wasn't

I use PureVPN to, there are options in the settings (assuming you are using desktop) to kill all internet traffic if it drop connection and to also auto-reconnect.

Relakks - used to be great, no tracking, no speed issues etc but recently they changed it, you can now only pay for it using Payson, and from what I can figure out is only possible if you have a Swedish bank account.

I don't know what was going on with Relakks, but complete turn around again.

Finally responded to social media before Christmas saying they would make a way for me to pay, ignored it, then offered 6 months free which I took. Fast service, and they are working on some massive upgrades.
