VR Racing games

Putting on my headset and sitting below the garage floor with no obvious way to recenter my headset most recently. The first time I installed the game it was just hard on the hardware and all the cars wanted to go straight. -Toyota Corollas with traction control on turn better than those GT3 cars did.
CTRL+Space and/or bind a key on your wheel to center view. The option is available in the controls menu.

The old AC requires two people to start driving. Me with my headset on and ready to go, and someone else with a mouse and keyboard at the desk behind my rig actually clicking the drive button or whateve the start selection is.
Again, CTRL+Space or bind a key.
Use content manager if you're not already.

It doesn't require two people, it just requires having a mouse/keyboard within reach, or you're just making things hard on yourself :)

What about the drive / start button? Is that key-bindable?
I don't need a mouse or a keyboard for PC2, AMS2, or iRacing.

It's not hard when the devs try even just a little.
Also is "content manager" part of AC or a third party work-around?

Don't be too hard on AC, the game was coming to fruition just about the time oculus was a glimmer in the kickstarters eyes.

Kunos are a little less forgivable when it comes to ACC, with their we don't use it don't care attitude.

Yes, start race is available in the same page as the screenshot I posted. But honestly, you really should have at least a mouse on hand.
Do you want to have to get up every time you want to change car/track or any settings etc? Personally, I can't stand gaze control, although using hand controllers on the virtual desktop screen isn't too bad if I had to.

Content manager isn't exactly a workaround. It's a faaaar better launcher and a whole lot more.
It allows you to easily install mods with drag/drop and make the game look far better with additions like shaders patch and SOL for weather and lighting etc.

If you need any help with links and setting it up, I'm happy to assist.

I don't want to, and I don't need to when I run PC2 or AMS 2.

I set gaze control to manual so that I can use my eyes as a mouse pointer and the enter button on my wheel to select what I want. Gaze control when left on auto can sometimes select something you don't want, but not when it's set to manual.

Just reinstalled AC and get a "Asseto Corsa does not support VR. It will appear on your desktop and may affect VR performance." message. I don't remember what I did last time to get into VR but my general recollection of it being a PITA seems accurate.

I tried loading it without starting steam VR first. It goes to my monitor and allows me to go into the menu and map my wheel controls....no mention of VR centering or VR at all.

What do I need to do to run AC in VR other than launch steam VR and then launch AC?
Change the output in video settings.

It's been years since I launched stock AC, so I can't remember. Maybe it doesn't launch in VR at all, in which case, use your virtual desktop.

EDIT: Yeah, it doesn't have a VR front end. You'll only be in VR once you're on track.

This may be an option that's only available in content manager - another reason to use it. Stop being stubborn :p Nobody uses the stock AC launcher these days.

I managed to get it to display in VR by ignoring the steam warning and starting it at my desk. (which is behind my sim rig)

I even downloaded content manager and mapped a recenter VR button (which works) and a "start race" button which either doesn't work, or doesn't mean what I think it means.

I can now sit in the virtual car whilst listening to the engine idle. Pushing the start race button I mapped does nothing and the throttle, shifter and sterring wheel that I mapped do nothing. just sitting and idling is what I'm doing at this point.

Start/Setup is the bind you want.

It probably starts the race in a race situation, I guess? I dunno, I don't race AI and I use a mouse to acess menus and click things, so never had the need to find out :)

Is there any particular reason you don't/won't have at least a mouse handy? I'm just curious, as you have high end PCs, sim racing equipment, all those sim titles with all their menus and settings, yet you rely on gaze to get through it all - and prefer it?

It's very awkward having to get out of my racing chair (which is a Playseat Challenge, so I have to tilt the steering wheel out of the way to get in and out), walk over to my computer, take the headset off, make changes to the settings, options, etc., then do the whole process in reverse, compared to sitting in the seat, use gaze to highlight and buttons on the wheel to select.

I use a wireless keyboard and mouse near me, but depending on the game I'll either just use the mouse, a joypad or mapped buttons on the wheel

Have you considered using a mouse? ;)

No space to use a mouse in my racing chair, even a wireless one. It's just got room for a wheel and shifter. Besides if I'm racing I don't really want to be faffing about with a mouse and keyboard.

Project Cars 2 is fully controllable using the steering wheel controls and a gaze pointer.
