Vulcan Flyover

Just interested in what the occasion for such a formation was, if any? Any info on it, if anyone knows, would be great.

It's not easy to identify the aircraft from the pictures, let alone what they may have been doing, but the ones in the middle look remarkably similar to a Hawker Siddeley Harrier!
 
Flew over my house very low twice today (I'm down the road from Bristol airport) was lovely to see. Although I had to laugh at the neighbourhood kids (who obviously hadn't heard what was happening) screaming at the top of their lungs "MUMMY! WE'RE BEING ATTACKED!!" :D

Did a bit of digging with that, seems the info I had on the possible date was well out. Also, part of the formation may be missing from the photo, but it looks like it could have been the Queen's Birthday 'Silver Sceptre' Flypast of 1973.
 
It was (apparently) meant to be flying exactly above the park I was in with my missus and daughter, but actually deviated from its flight path by (I'd guess) 1/4 mile. This meant we got a better view of it in profile.

Really cool to see it fly past.
 
We went to see it at East Midlands Airport yesterday but it was 15 minutes early and we arrived about 5 seconds after it went past :(
 
It is a shame this vulcans airframe is pretty much shot for safe flying, they flew that thing with baby gloves on so we all can see its splendor.

When you see the video posted above of a Vulcan doing a barrel roll straight after take off you release how much they are babying it about just now. Judging by the amount of smoke out of the engines they must have been pushed very hard during the maneuver I can only imagine what that sounded like on the ground.

The pilot must be well into his 80-90s but he still had a grin on his face when he was talking about it ! I bet he wasn't authorised to carry is out either

It was great while it lasted. :(

I was really hoping a couple of years back that she'd retire to Bruntingthorpe and join the other Cold War Jets there, but it was not to be.

I'm happy she's made it through the years pretty much undamaged and will continue to live on.
