VW 1.9 TDI vs 2.0TDI?

Thinking about the 2.0 FSI now. Was in one today with 70k on the clock for £6000 which seemed nice.

The two I'm struggling to chose between now are:
* 2004 (04 reg)
* Estate
* 73,874 miles
* Manual
* 1.9L TDI PD S
* Diesel

5 Doors, Manual, Estate, Diesel, 73,874 miles, Metallic Blue, MOT-05-2011, 3 Owners. Air conditioning, Remote central locking, PAS, Electric windows, Heated door mirrors, Electric door mirrors, Drivers airbag, ABS, Traction control, Immobiliser, Passenger airbag, Radio/CD, Isofix child seat anchor points, Full Service History, Excellent Condition Throughout. Insurance Group:6, £6,000

It has not had the CAM belt done, it's not got cruise control or parking sensors, but I talked him down to £5,500 and then he's said he'll do all three of those before I pick it up for £6,150.

The lack of Trip computer which can't be retro-fitted will bother me a little.

OR

* 2006 (55 reg)
* Estate
* 69,000 miles
* Manual
* 2.0L FSI SE
* Petrol

5 Doors, Manual 6 speed, Estate, Petrol, 69,000 miles, Blue. Stunning Example, Air conditioning, Cruise control, Front electric windows, Rear electric windows, Fully Valeted, Radio/CD, ABS, Cloth seat trim, Front head restraints, Central locking, Folding rear seats, Heated door mirrors, Roof rails, Height adjustable drivers seat, Isofix child seat anchor points, Lumbar support, Passenger airbag, PAS, Rear headrests, Rear wiper, Service indicator, Side airbags, Steel wheels, Steering wheel rake adjustment, Traction control, Trip computer, 3x3 point rear seat belts. Insurance Group:9, FULL DEALER FACILITIES. £6,000

This is newer, has had the CAM belt done, has slightly lower miles and already has Trip computer + cruise as standard, it doesn't have parking sensors (which my mrs would like) but I'm up for fitting aftermarket ones myself if need be.

Both cars are nice examples and drive well, I would probably say the FSI is nicer to drive, but only because it's not a tractor. I'm guessing the FSI will cost a lot more to run?

I'm really struggling to decide on this. What would people do in my shoes?

Thanks,

G

It is a complete no brainer, I cannot see why you are struggling. The petrol version is almost 2 years newer, lower mileage, has a quieter, smoother and more refined engine and to cap it all his a higher spec model as well!

Why are you finding it so hard to choose?

I have to agree with fox, no brainier there. Cruise control > PDC imo ( edit, both don't have em, even more reason to go for the 2nd). I wouldn't like a car without cruise control ( 2nd car is already cheaper than the 6150 for the first with pdc and cc) and I also prefer petrols over diesels, the petrol is newer and higher spec too.

The only reason I'm struggling is because I'm worried that it will be a gas guzzler and will cost much more to run.

I've only ever had diesels so I know what sort of distance I'll get out of a tank etc.

I think I'll take the Mrs to drive the Petrol tomorrow. :)

Don't touch the Diesel. It's 2 years and/or 15000 miles past the cambelt change interval. Gos knows how many other service items it's missed as well - signs of a negligent owner.

My TDI 130 is due a cambelt and has has a third the mileage. Suffice to say it's booked in next week.

Just when I was about to make a decision, my mum, who will help finance the difference, is suggesting this:

* 2007 (07 reg)
* People Carrier
* 31,530 miles
* Manual
* 1.6L FSI S
* Petrol

5 Doors, Manual, MPV, Petrol, 31,530 miles, Black. Ex motability, FREE 5 Year Warranty, FREE Nationwide Delivery, Full Service History, Alloy wheels, CD, Electric mirrors, Headlight washers, Metallic paintwork, Radio. £7,490

I've spoken to them and the car hasn't been modified in any way for motability use.

1.9TDI is a good solid diesel engine, they'll keep going no matter how much crap you throw at them. The 2.0TDI is just the new verson of this good practical engine.

Both are pretty solid choices, if you're not worried about speed then i'd be looking at which one allows you to get the newest car with the best spec (Probably the 1.9TDI)

Nightmare, they are now saying that they have lost the history for the 2.0 petrol :(

They can't confirm if/when the cam belt was done.
