VW 1.9 TDI vs 2.0TDI?

I didn't buy it, it had more than just that scuff and also the airbag warning light was on and the cruise control didn't work. The cam belt hasn't been done yet and it had 0 tax. Although it was nice to see as it's help me decide that I don't need parking sensors of climate control. AC will do me.

Back to the drawing board to a certain extent though! settled on budget of 7k now though. Think I'm going to allow a further distance for viewings over the next couple of days in the hope I'll find something nice.

The AC only cars will likely have Climatic anyway - giveaway is numbers on the temperature dial. Climatic attempts to maintain a set temperature. It's less complex than the Climatronic with dual zone etc but it works perfectly well. I actually prefer it to the button fest that is Climatronic on some VAG cars as you can set it by touch without having to peer at a screen, which is far less distracting when driving.

I understand what you mean, but let's not exaggerate, he doesn't need it. It's a shame if you buy a car without for this budget, but it's not essential. Some people might not care to manually adjust the a/c or blower once in a while.

From a quick look it seems to be semi automatic which whilst not as good as proper climate is better than a simple AC button.

Indeed. It works fine on my car. Set to 18C, jobs a good'un. Press the AC button if required.

Exactly. I haven't had a functioning AC compressor for almost 2 years and I've survived with my climateless 'climate control'.

Manual AC isn't the end of the world. It's certainly not worth overlooking another model in excellent condition without CC.

I love dual zone CC. Set it to a comfortable temperature and leave it going, it'll do everything else on it's own.

Plus it got regassed at the last service so it's been fantastic for those hot days we've been having recently.

Having said that, I could live with manual AC but i'd really prefer not to.

I'm considering the 07 plate again and fitting the cruise control myself. Think that's the only bit of it that's under spec.

There only seems to be S, SE and Sport. The S is only lacking cruise from what I can see compared to most SE's. Some have climate, but I don't care for that. For the age and the price I think it will do the mrs nicely.

Volkswagen cars in 'S' trim generally have:

Tiny steel wheels
Cheap seat covering
and in quite a few cases they are built in South Africa using inferior interior materials to the other spec levels (certainly in the case of the Golf Mk5/6).

If it doesnt do that whats the point in it
That's what I'm getting at!

If I recall correctly, Climatic simply attempts to regulate the temperature of the air using a C/F system (rather than just a twirly hot/cold), leaving the control of the fan speed, direction and AC system to the occupants. It's been years since I've used it so I can't remember for sure.

The 'proper' Climatronic does everything you'd expect.

The saga continues! I'm still considering the 1.6 petrol as the motability people have an 07 plate with 18,000 miles for £7,700
