VW Scirocco

Cancelled out by the fact the Leon is an absolutely godawful looking car :(
Done on purpose of course.

I am amazed that VW continue to make these small gaps in the market, I mean they already make a 3dr golf!

Just look at the VW website and see how many cars they offer!!

3 modes, comfort, normal, sport

the TT had it first i think (the newone) and i assume the R8 etc's have them.

changes the suspension which has magnetic partices in the shocks to alter the ride quality and i think it also plays with steering weight, dont know about throttle response tho.

The engine isn't a detunned ed30, even although it's rated the same as the golfs 197bhp engine it's a totally new design for better performance, emissions, fuel consumption etc . It will replace the "old" engine in all the vag cars by the end of the year. Evo did a road test and it was clocking 60 over a second faster than vws figures at 6.2 and hitting 100 in the 15s. So I suspect it's running more than 197bhp

I like the look but no idea what it is like on the inside or how it drives. I wonder if VW have stepped out the 80s for interior design yet.

The engine isnt a totally new designed one, its the same one used on the GTI. The reason why the emission and fuel consumption lower is because Audi has recently improved their entire engine lineup by fitting more efficient fuel pumps and reducing friction when introducing their facelift A3 range and the 2.0T is sourced from Audi afaik.

The 'new' 2.0T is only available on the A4 and A5 atm and it uses variable valve lift, it chucks out 211hp/350Nm of power, is hell of a lot more fuel efficient than the current 2.0T and its only in a VED band D.

It is a different engine , it's got different pistons, compression ratio. It's now chain driven rather than a belt. The fuel rail pump runs off the chain now rather than the inlet cam which is a design flaw in the original engine It's the same revision as the audi engine expect vw claim it's 197bhp rather than 211bhp the performance stats evo got show it must be running more as it was quicker than a rx8,t5 c30 & a 123d

The new engine is going into new build golfs now aswell, if u head to vwvortex.com they have a full breakdown of the differences as the golfs hitting the states have the "new" engine

No it isnt, it has different piston aka reduced friction parts and new fuel pumps like I said and all the Audi TFSI engines are now chain driven since months ago. If you look at the stats sheet, the power and torque are identical to the current 2.0T offered from the the A3 line up.

Audi said:
The 1.8T FSI and the technically closely related 2.0T FSI have been frictionally optimised and have new cylinder bores, pistons and oil pumps to increase efficiency.

From http://www.audi.co.uk/audi/uk/en2/about_audi_ag/news/The_new_generation_Audi_A3.html

The current 2.0T block in the A3 and the Scirocco produces identical power 200PS/280Nm with Co2 and combined fuel cycle of ~170g/km/39mpg.

The new 2.0T used on A4/A5 has a 211PS/350NM output and a Co2/combine cycle of ~150g/km/43mpg on a heavier car.

The new engine might make it into the new Golf lineup later but its most certainly isnt the engine in the Scirocco, everything on the press release and stat sheets points to the fact it uses the current 2.0T engine

Read Clarksons review of it in the Sunday Times this morning, he seems to like it.

I went to the VW garage in Northallerton earlier and they said that the person that drives it had just gone home in it. I may pop back in if I have time before I go home later in the week and see if I can have a drive.

Theres a blue one in Crawley VW, it certainly has a lot of road presence from the exterior styling but the interior looks abit bland really.

We must be talking at cross purposes, the engines you have linked to and in the Scirocco are the 'new' engines. The 'old' 2L TFSI in the Golf GTI was 189g/km and 35mpg and had the BWA engine code (before this in the 54/55 plate Golfs had different pistons under a engine code of AXX), the 'new' engine in the Golf/Scirocco/A3 has a different head, cams, fuel pump, pistons, chain driven, different waterpump, thermostat and runs the EDC17 engine managment and goes by the engine code CCTA if this isn't a new engine I don't know what is. I was under the impression it hadn't filtered to all new UK Golfs/A3s yet however the fact the webpages have been updated would indicate they now have. The Scirocco however has only been supplied with the new CCTA engine.

More information here http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/vw-golf-gti-forum/109411-new-engine-mk5-gti.html

The 211bhp Audi A4 engine is a different verson of the new revison of engines as its chain driven etc etc I think it adds variable valve timing, the first in this line was the new 1.8T
