Never speak to fox about VW's. he doesnt 'get' them do you mate?

many a time we've had a disagreement about them. He likes his cars that are comfortable, comes with a label like BMWs (ie. high status) do and it must always be great value for money. Thats fair enough, thats what he likes and he has respect from me for it.
Actually, I do get them. I don't dislike VW's as cars. I've suggested Bora's, Passats etc to people on here on numerous occasions, for example. I think the Mk5 GTI is a proper GTI and a great car (Note I didn't post LOL THE R32 SUCKS GET A 330i I said 'a GTI is better'), I like the styling on the Mk4 Anniversary (With the 1.8T

, etc etc. But people don't tend to notice this, or don't want to notice this, as we often see in this forum its far too easy to just pretend I think XYZ and constantly preach about it..
What does nark me however is the ownership attitude that sometimes goes with them, as if they have the best car ever when actually a VW is little more special than a Ford. VW have an un-deserved reputation for peerless quality and reliability - this irritates me slightly. A Focus is as reliable, if not more so, as a Golf, and much of the Seat stable gets close on quality.
This thread is EXACTLY what I mean - we have two people bigging up the Golf constantly for no real reason other than, well, its a Golf. And they have Golfs. They are not even familier with the Golf product range and can't really give a tangiable reason to support their recommendation of a Golf. We've seen this in several threads this week.
I'm sure many of you will actually say 'Hang on, don't you do the same with BMW's?. No, I don't. I rarely recommend them, I don't spend all my time telling you how reliable are and I don't constantly post that 5 series will pwn all other cars, lol. I love my car, I'm happy with it, but I'm prepared to accept it isn't everyones cup of tea.
Some of the VW enthusiasts ought to try this.
Im a VW nut, i prefer the older shapes with the newer mechanics fitted. I would love to rip the back seats out from one of my corrados and fit an R32 engine into the middle/rear. I doubt fox would approve as it will cost around £6K+ and i could buy a better car, newer car for the money.
Thing is, I *do* approve of that. Further proof I'm not an irrational VW hater can be found in the fact I check LJ's Golf thread daily. It fascinates me. It's a true projet, a real hobby, as as would fitting an R32 engine into the middle of a Corrado.
Fitting an R32 into engine a Corrado is an utterly pointless waste of money BUT you probably agree, and you wouldn't defend it as a sensible thing to do. You know it would be daft but you'd do it anyway becuase it's a damn good hobby and you'd thoroughly enjoy it. That's great, and deserves nothing but respect.
It's also completely different to going OMG LOL GOLF *** COS I LIKE HAVE A 1.6 INNIT.
