VX Rearended - Maybe written off

It does wind me up when people profit from accidents and I have to pay £600 a year to insure a diesel Focus.

I'd take a rear end accident in return for 2 months in a brand new Boxster, and an £8000 cheque to pay for a £700 repair bill.

Bargain.

Yes, I am not sure what you mean by this. My point is that Muncher has done incredibly well out of this 'accident' at the expense of the third party (or his insurers). I don't think it is morally right to claim more than the actual loss incurred. It just sends all premiums sky high.

If you were in his position are you saying that you would refuse the payout on grounds of morality or write a cheque for £8000 and send it back to the insurance company?

It's not his fault they wrote his car off. They wrote it off so that in turns means they were willing to pay up... :) Muncher isn't the bad guy here.

It's just the inconvenience of it all. It means his car has been devalued substantially more than what it was pre-accident. He would probably have serious issues selling it privately now in fact.

Very true, I wouldn't want to be selling a CAT D car (i assume thats what this is)

Hang on a minute. You are forgetting it's "only £700" because of Muncher using his noggin. He is doing most of the work himself and competitively sourcing spares.

Good on you mate.

Just got the settlement cheque through :)

Settled at £8,765 and keeping the car.
I'm confused, and 230am isn't the time to be doing mathmatics, but doesn't this mean that you in fact didn't get what you wanted for the car?

Market value approx £12k+ and as I was hit my a third party I will be offered the salvage back @ approx 20% of the payout amount.
surely this means you should've got the car and £9600 pounds and not £8765?
By my sums it means they in fact gave you £10956.25- the offer of salvage @ 20% of the payout amount.

Or there is the distinct possibility my maths skills are broken. :D
