I'm trying to think what's inherently different between gaming and any number of other solo hobbies that a person might become obsessed with?

Certainly other entertainment options. TV, books, YouTube... None of them produce anything or develop any skill at anything.

I think PC Gaming is just another non-productive hobby that people can and do turn to when they want to forget about the real world and its associated difficulties. I don't think PC Gaming is inherently different to many other forms of escapism. As a kid I was totally addicted to books btw - obviously before I discovered gaming :p

Sarcasm right or is that how you see gaming. I see gaming as hours of fun and entertainment, laughs and banter with friends in the room or online via discord and the likes where you’re in a group party. I’ve never once thought god my life is so crap and I’m bored out of my skull so I game for the time to pass.

You do know it is possible for people to have a good time in games without trying to escape from something?

Gaming addiction is real and can ruin lives, just like many other types of addictions.

It is something I have looked into before and I would suggest some reading around the subject as it is quite interesting (or at least I think it is). The behavioural cues are pretty standard and actually resemble gambling addiction in a big way. It isn't just about a person spending a lot of time gaming, it is about how it affects their day to day life.

But as others have mentioned, the manifestation is not the cause, just the effect.

They’ve come to this decision from seeing the rage videos?

*WARNING* Lots of profanity. https://youtu.be/kilVPLg6JRM

Or Quake Champions, Lol! https://youtu.be/M9NFv8n_TkI

Twitch can be a weird place at times.

When you've cases of people playing video games to the point their children starve to death, people hunting people down in RL and killing them over an in-game unique/rare item, or being obsessed over playing video games constantly so that is has a negative impact on their lives, such as when my brother lost his job due to playing rift for 20 hours a day then yes, I think it can be classed as a health issue.

Mental health as in addiction then yes, it is a real danger.
