Awesome collection, although I was a bit later to personal music players and skipped cassette.

I had numerous cd players, and jumped onto mp3 cd players, including a Freecom 8cm mini cd model.
Of course flash memory quickly came down in price and I moved to flash MP3 players.

Am i right in thinking that some models of Walkman could play both sides of the tape, and could automatically skip tracks?

yes, some of those on the pic can skip tracks, change sides, one has option to slow down and speed up as well

one bottom left, has built in headphones with a winder ;)

will add pics as I take more - need for auction site anyway :)

Great collection :)

I binned all mine, had a discman too that you couldn't carry in your coat pocket as the CD skipped when you walked. How did Sony think that was ever going to take off? My mother found my old Sony Minidisc Walkman too, I looked to sell it but its not really worth a lot. I was all in on mini discs too, thought they would be the next big thing. Even had one in my car with a CD changer in the boot

Yeah my brother done the same with mini disc, then transpired it died a quick death, MP3 came along. Although the sound quality on mini disc was far superior to MP3 at the time

Ooof brings back memories - I had one of the Walkman Recorders (professional) as a kid, I can't remember the actual model now, and then someone pushed me and I dropped it, was devastated - I see those models are going for around £700 now!

EDIT: Think I'm getting a bit confused, was a long time ago, think what happened was I had the VGC TS-300 which got destroyed then a relative gave me a Walkman Recorder they had spare to replace it.

Did you have the CD Walkman to tape adapter? It came with a semi flexible arm to mount the player on to try and reduce skipping.

But yeah, I also had MD in my car, a portable and a separates deck (think thats still around somehwere), I even got the official Sony remote for the deck with a keyboard for making labelling tracks easier.

Nice that's something for the mini disc player, I'm pretty certain I've still got mine up in the loft! May even have my old walkman too.
Yup mine was all in the loft in limbo for ages... The MD was one I imported from Japan as they only came in silver for the UK. I had a fancy anniversary MD cassette too but couldn't find it anywhere. Sadface.

I had a hand me down black tape walkman, loved it and some of my best early memories was being on holiday in Florida and listening to Michael Jackson's 'rock with you' essentially on repeat.

Then I got an ALBA portable CD player with 10seconds anti-skip! Then eventually I upgraded to a Sony Walkman minidisc player. It was one of the minidisc players where you could connect it to your computer and burn minidiscs as long as you had rewritable ones.

Good times!

Ah man I used to lobe a Walkman.

Then I got cd player, skipped as mentioned above when walking, so bought one with "ram" which cured that, then a couples years later I bought an MP3 player with 128mb storage from special reserve (remember them).

Those were the days, cool days best time to grow up the 90's and 00's imo

I have the 25th anniversary walkman that I bought years ago when it came out and cost a bomb at least for way back then. I got heavily into minidisc as well and bought a JA555ES in champagne gold.

Labelling the tracks was an absolute pain on the walkman with that jog wheel, took ages. Was totally worth it though when playing a song in the car and you could see the track name scrolling past, replete with spelling mistakes and missing spaces :D

Nice collection there!

Reminded me I've still got my old Aiwa HS-JX101 in a drawer - unused for decades.

When I bought it I also demo'd the Sony Professional Walkman, which did sound better, but my young self was swayed by all the extra toys to play with... :D:rolleyes:

I've still got the case (which is probably why it still looks in decent condition), remote (wired) and the optional rechargable battery.

It started chewing up the odd tape, so stopped using it.

Anyhow, some pics...
