Water is coming from behind the plug socket in the kitchen, what the hell?!

I have shut off power to the kitchen ring and the cooker. Should I shut off power to the whole flat?

Called the landlord but no answer.

Turn the water off until someone can come and have a look. If it still leaks water then try and look for a valve to shut off any tanks higher up in the flat if it's a duplex or has a loft. Does someone else live above you?

Lol madness! Yeh hit your stop **** and any fuses you think could be connected.

Is it a flat? Could it be from those above you? Is it raining?

Keep calling your landlord but if still no answer then call out an emergency plumber and invoice your landlord.

Do you have any emergency cover with your insurance? I assume you just have contents covered which most likely means no.

I'm not sure this is the best place to come...

Is there anything near it that dispenses water? Have you had any work done recently in that area? Have you drilled anything for example? Does the leak go in time with water being used? Washing machine? Dishwasher?

Water can cause big problems. If you don't know where it's coming from or how bad it's leaking then best not risk it. Repairs can get costly if left.

I'd thank my tenants for acting quickly when Water leaks are involved (depending how bad, obviously).

Edit: I suppose it depends on this leak, I initially imagined water streaming out of the holes :D

Yea just funnel it into a bucket and pour it down the sink. Emergency plumber gets my vote too mind. If it's in the wall then you could have problems. Tiles etc

You're assuming it's not being caused by the rain :). Top floor flat could have a flat roof that's pooled with lots of rain and is now leaking down the wall cavities.

Are there any other sockets that side of the wall?

Do the ceilings look wet/damp?

Any way of looking at the outside wall behind this socket - is there a noticable wet patch on the wall.

Do you have a neighbour below? Might be worth giving them a shout too as it's more than likely water will have dripped down below too.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am still alive!

Are there any other sockets that side of the wall?

Yes there are. One more. We have decided not to use them. We decided to turn the kitchen ring on since the water stopped and leaving it off would mean the freezer would have defrosted and poured more water everywhere. Of course we are not using those sockets or the kitchen in general.

Do the ceilings look wet/damp?

Yes, in the next room a brown patch has appeared on the ceiling.

Good question, that would be in the flat next door, we could ask.

No, we are on the bottom floor. We went to the flat above but they are not aware of any issues, since the problem is inside the walls.

So this morning we contacted the landlord and management company, as well as the owners of the flat above. They were rightly concerned and will be sending people round today to have a look.

This was quite concerning and I did lose some sleep over it. When you call the landlord at 10pm for an emergency and both him and the "out of hours" number you phone for the managing agent don't pick up, you feel very stuck.

Sounds like you've done your part. I'm guessing there is a leak from the flat above. Either a pipe, or someone's got a bit splashy with the bath. :p

Nah, you've just been switched to hydropower is all. This is the new form of electricity, more efficient, much green.
