Want a bigger bike

The new one or the old one? The old one's weren't brilliant, the new one however is pretty damn good. Bucketloads of torque, and 70mph was 4k rpm.

New one :) would be more interested in the 1000 i think, but brand new, i think they're asking too much when you compare with KTM and BMW.

You can't argue with £7500 brand new though! (quick check of ebay).

Any questions let me know, as you know I test rode one at the weekend, was quite impressed at just how ridiculously easy it was to ride. Only 100BHP but because of the torque it was pretty rapid. Just very, very quiet. I'm 6ft 3 and found it comfy, the screen is easily adjustable by pushing it forwards (has a click thing with 3 settings).

Not that exciting but it was very competent, and as I said before, with the combination of the torque, lack of noise, and fairing, 80mph felt like 40mph!

I think the 1000cc v-storm is just a bit big, I wouldn't go to a 650cc v-storm either as it'd be slower than the 650f. 800cc seems to be the sweet spot for an adventure bike in my mind.

That said, I'm keen to see what the new Africa Twin is all about!

GS800?

Pffff German engineered crap :p

There's a few out there but the cheaper Jap manufacturers are yet to get on board.
(And before you say it, the Crossrunner isn't as good value as a Versys/V-Strom 800 could be.)

saw some versys today, looked a nice big tough machine, had all the bracketry for panniers aswell

Wheels are a tad small if you want to take it on an 'adventure' though.
I keep telling myself this matters but I bet I'd never take one off road!

They're pretty big, quite nice looking too. Not sure what happened to Honda and Suzuki, the newer the bike/model the ulgier they get. Hopefully suzuki will actually roll out those sports bike which I posted a poster from a Jap magazine, they looked sexxxy. :D

Ear plugs? Much cheaper.
Or just admit you want something new to play with and you're fishing for a reason :p

Holy lord I've finally found a set of earplugs that fit my ears and the difference is mental :p

I've got an sc projects can which is loud and these plugs are amazing, feels wierd though at first.

Get some plug Rossi and you'll be fine.

I always use wax plugs, perfect fitment every time and I find them more comfortable than foam ones.
Never tried them on the bike though as I usually have headphones in if I'm going to be on it long enough for the sound to get to me.

Big as in overall size or engine size? All these adventure tourers look big, but once riding they're not at all - even the slow speed balance on the v-strom was excellent. And it's only 100bhp, but has nearly 80lb/ft of torque from 4000rpm, which makes for effortless riding. Most adventure bikes don't see any off road, lets face it :D

They just seem a bit big for commuting, London traffic for me = lots of filtering.
My next bike will definitely be an adventure bike and I'd love to do some decent off road touring on it but where can you do it without going a LONG way away (around or down)?

The Africa twin has my ears *****ed, looks like it could be awesome.

Have you ridden a twin? You might prefer that if you don't like the drone of an IL4 on the motorway. It's not just about the rpm.

Edit - missed page 2!

Bid adv bikes are fine for commuting. I commute on the GS most days to Leeds. Occasionally there are gaps that a thinner bike could get through, but on the plus side you get seen a lot more! Also don't discount a 650 twin - it might not have the top end of an il4 but will feel faster lower down at legalish speeds.

If I didn't do such a lot of 2up riding I'd probably go for a 650 - the Versys 650 I had was one of the best bikes I've owned (apart from the budget finish)

Portugal.

Finding myself on the throttle stop on my CB400 more and more these last few weeks... :o

I'm putting money away monthly into a new bike fund but it won't be until next winter I'll have enough for a multistrada or similar (I don't/can't do finance) but I don't know if I can last that long!
