wasd replacement

Why would you want to push all 4 directional keys at the same time? :p

Well you might not, but you might need to, say, push w, a, q, l-shift, l-ctrl, space at the same time...

(Jumping from a very slow crawl while strafing right and changing weapon :p)

Use a Xbox360 controller with Xpadder to move/walk etc and then your mouse for aiming.

Depending on your mouse you can still set approx 12-16 commands.

Try it you might like it!

my advice is just stick at it

I found it weird at first going to WASD from the arrow keys (played Doom 2, then Half Life)

WASD is 10x better though

Please god not another arrows vs wasd thread.

Not really... But arrows vs wasd is a good argument to resurrect now the gfx fanboys haven't got one :p

i havent actually used one but i remember seeing one out of the box in a shop once and having a feel, it felt comfortable but i dont really need one as im fine with the keys ;)

Cheers, good for you. PC ***** seem to carry these so will call in when I pass and give one a feel. Have posted in wanted section in case anyone has one they don't like.

Time to google this, this is almost exactly what I was looking for. If it works well I might have to mod an old controller so it's not so bulky / heavy for one hand use.

Have just installed fallout3 goty edition, played through the standard game to death on the xbox and loved it long time. VATS means I don't need to be that profficient with the wasd yet, by the end of it I might have warmed to keys a little more.

For FPS I have always used the arrow keys for straffe but the RMB for forward movement, although that can be difficult with some games...Call of Juarez is one.

I've used WASD for so long I forgot about the arrow keys, I use to constantly use the arrow keys for everything and WASD felt ever so wrong but now it's second nature.

Football games on the PC: I use the bottom layer of keys, such as ZXCVBN, something I've done from when I played Fifa on the old Amiga, I can't play with anything else.

Racing games: A & D for steering, Up & down arrow keys for acceleration and braking

FPS: WASD

I never realised I was so fussy about my keys until now...

.....then i tried ESDF and found it loads better (better access to even more keys)

I tried this, but found my little finger is in an awkward position to press the Ctrl and Shift keys. I need a new keyboard. My WSADEFC letters have worn off.

for over 12 years from cs beta and any other fps ive used the right mouse button as forward and the A S D buttons as normal side and reverse movements.

An old uni mate of mine used to play quakeworld like that

You can hook up a wiimote to a pc so could probably use that or the nunchuk with some playing around.

Arrow keys have allways been my choice, just seems so much more natural to me, wasd allways seems a little auqward.
stick with it though, it will become second nature sooner than you realise.

Arrows here as well dont like how s is not directly below w

and i think it is more intuitve that the arrow keys are seperate from the other keys less chance of hitting the wrong key

thanks for the replies people. I've tried the arrow keys, there a little easier to get on with but for the life of me i'm struggling to use any keys effectively. This coming from gaming on c64 when you were forced to use keys most of the time as the microswitches in the joysticks failed faster than a zephyr 360.

I want to blame my ps1/2 xbox360 for this problem....

This seems ideal - have you used one? Saves me dropping 50 large on a decent keyboard that i'm going to struggle to game with anyway.

I have one, and really rate it. I also had a belkin nostromo previously which was also pretty good, but Overclockers don't stock it anymore.

I can't comment on the Logitech one but I've been using a Belkin Speedpad for almost a year now and think it's great.

The quick macros and thumbpad make it a joy to use with a mouse as well.

I used PTT for such a long time but after switching I'd never go back. Finding a key that was universally usable was such an unbelievable chore.

really?

V or C are the best two i've found. only games that use prone ever really need/use them and even then you just rebind it to whichever one you don't use for vent.

i Have the N52TE and cant get to grips with it because i use arrow keys. doesnt feel right having all the keys so close to eachother, finger missing the keys i want. returning to the wrong key when i move back to position from a move to another key, blah, great idea but i meed something like this

mind the paint skillz, you get the idea though.

I've been sticking with Mouse 4 (or whatever the 'Forward' button is on the MX518) for Vent. No game uses them and quite a few they can't even be allocated to anything...

Not a fan of sensitivity... either it activates when you don't need it to or it doesn't when you do. It gets irritating having to listen to extremely loud typing in a lobby in L4D because its always on, never mind during a whole game.

Meh, you get use to it. After you've played or typed for so long your hands more or less return to a ready position on there own without thinking about it.
