Wasteland ARMA II Mos : Server Details

I would say we were targeted more than usual last night so I can understand some of the frustrations.

Although people should try to get out of the mind set of "gearing up" this takes minutes on Wasteland, compared to hours of graft on a Day Z server. With the combination of missions/dead AI/Vehicles/caches and the gun shop.
 
I do like S2 now with first-person only. It adds a certain degree of difficulty and gets the heart racing. You are also reliant on sound, so having a "deafen self" hotkey for Mumlbe//TS is vital.

Wasteland is Wasteland lol, please don't make it DAYZ. Having the server reset stops people hoarding stuff and come the reset, everyone starts again... level playing field... sort of
 
Yeah, we got onto server #2 just as it was resetting. Was a great chance to try a fresh map. It seemed to fill up really fast once it got past 20 members. That seems to be the Critical mass number for wasteland.

I've no idea what was going on for blufor. They seemed to get a good start with a chopper but iv got a feeling the friendly fire causes them to lose a few good early assets. Then a few more friendly fire incidents later can really descend a team into playing like they're indy and not much gets done. However the groups that were working together put up some great fights.

Not sure what indies were doing. I was flying transport so I didn't get to ID the targets that often. It was a nice change playing as opfor rather than indy. I love the guerrilla stuff but sometimes its also nice to have a whole side working as a team.

What are the rules on general stores btw? Same as gunstores or free game?

We landed a chopper on one and like 8 guys got out to grab a rep kit super fast. and we took a few kills from guys there. Didnt complain though because essentially we just flew a chopper in with 8 guys and kinda felt even if its against the rules. If you're coming in with that much manpower you're fair game.

Also, do the gunstores limit outgoing fire? We flew past a few where guys shot from out of the gunstore at us which seemed a bit iffy. Luckily though we were moving fast so took no serious damage. though one guy did get hero sniped out of the chopper. Nice shot whoever did that.

I need to get that shortcut key set for TS, sometimes when trying to track people and everyone is talking about nonsense is a nightmare :)

Yeah this is why we stayed on our own TS. Without ACRE comms get MESSY if you're more than 10 guys. especially if not everyone is moving as a single team. I guess using whisper lists/channel commander is an option but that can be a pain in the airse.

General stores are fair game (FFA)

Outside the walls, weapons hot.

Thought acre was server side as well mate?

Yeah ACRE is server side, which is why we stuck to our own TS. to avoid even more comms clutter.

ACRE would be cool on wasteland but im not sure if it would work so good. For one, some people will just cheat and disable their ACRE plugin. and yeah... cool but not for wasteland. Gotta go back to old school with whisper lists or channel commander.
 
The wasteland 404 mod is out.

It has persistence.

Save bases and a few other things.

That's what the launcher is for...

Maybe we could fire acre onto server two for you guys.. I have no problem with that...

Can't see it taking off to be honest.

Too many hackers out there now, and too many scripts running to make a decent script.txt file that kicks and bans...

I think it will get hacked to pieces when people realise that persistence is there...

I am in two minds about it. Part of me thinks persistence could work and reading how the code works it's quite a nice idea. When a server restarts, all items that were locked, stay in place but they are now unlocked. Any item that is unlocked before a restart is lost. So you would need to lock the base down once the server is restarted. You would also have the chance to move the base items without having to unlock everything on a fresh restart.

This might encourage bases to move to more remote locations on the map and will probably slow the game down a little.

On the other hand this might be a step backwards, with players hoarding items and everyone and their dog having a .50 cal sniper rifle. One of the biggest attraction to Wasteland is having the more action oriented PvP battles. People choose their base location knowing that the server will restart at some point. So they kind of want to be attacked at the base. That is part of the fun element.
 
Yeah I agree. servers get stale after like 12 hours, never mind if it had persistance.

And just think. we could log into our server. kit up with loads of juicy stuff then hop onto your server and be fully kitted for war :/ seems a bad idea.


Inb4 wastelandstandalone from BIS.

Eventually BIS are just gonna be like, guys... just play some fricking domination or something. Get ArmA3 and mod it >.<

I kinda also think its a "cool" idea but I dont think it will kick off. For a start, it once against seperates the community by requiring a mod to be setup. And i agree the attraction of wasteland is the fighting. The PvP is a lot more "battles" than small firefights. (or can be) and people get gear with the intent of using it to blow stuff up. Rather than hoarding it and just hiding away like in DayZ. Big complex bases tend to lagg the servers too and eventually the map becomes empty. Simple bases that are there for just half the day and are a bit more like defensive outposts and used as a tool. (meeting point, weapon store, defensive spawn location) then its all wiped clean and fresh to find a new hidey hole. Much better.

Do you run ASR_AI or anything like that on your wasteland servers ?

Reason I ask is that the AI in game are very derp by default

We only have ASR on server 3 at the moment. Could look at putting it on the others?
