Wayne Rooney - Victim of a witch hunt

He is simply a player who has managed to piggyback off his form earlier in his career but when you look at the stats it wasn't that impressive anyway. It's odd how he has seemingly be allowed to continue his poor form for so long without getting questioned.

Can see language being a barrier there, he can barely speak English so can't see him trying to learn mandarin!!

when has language ever been a barrier for footballers (at that point it would purely be for marketing purposes / getting subscribers for their matches):D

I barely give a **** about this and I'm bored to tears by the constant 'debate' over Rooney. Similarly with the Evans thing, I'm just so fed up of hearing about it.

Rooney is not 'out of form', or 'transitioning to another position', his form dropped off a cliff a few seasons back and has been on a downward trajectory ever since (posted here about it frequently).

If Southgate was not the human equivalent of soggy bread, and had an ounce of courage about him; he would have stripped him of his captaincy and not picked him in the squad.

Rooney, on the last 4 seasons form, should be absolutely nowhere near the England national side, nor the Manchester United side.

The constant defence and support he receives from 'experts', ex-players/'pundits', is astonishing... until you realise they are friends and probably have many economic connections (media companies, marketing companies, agents... et cetera). Absolute dross.

You could fit what Danny Mills, Robbie Savage, and Chris '****' Sutton know about football on to a stamp and have room left over, so excuse me if I reject the notion that Rooney is a 'world class' player (or ever was), and that he should be anywhere near the first team of Manchester United, let alone FC United of Manchester.

just look at the 10 mins last night, he let the fullback overlap him twice and almost cost us. Rashford defended well all-night.

Rooney is finished at Utd after this season.

he should be shipped out in the January transfer window to somewhere like USA or China or to a championship club that wants to avoid the drop to League 1 (doubtful he could hack it in that league though), because that is all this retard is capable of.

I resent how he held the club to ransom, forcing fools like Woodward/Moyes to bend over basically forcing our hand to play him week in week out in the hopes he could come good.

He's the embodiment of the downside to modern football. Overpaid, untalented, unprofessional, zero-effort, cry baby & diving.

to be fair its as much the fault of Woodward (and Moyes) to agreeing to it, although timing had a lot to do with it which couldnt be helped.

I was talking to a family member who has a season ticket at OT, he was saying that Rooney is their talisman and to get rid of him would be a mistake, he believes that every other member of the team should adapt to let Rooney play to his strengths.

I was stood there gobsmacked, really thought he'd be wanting rid but not the case.

Oh absolutely, but he & his agent knew what they were doing. The City gambit was disgusting.

Funny thing is, I don't even see him as passionate about Man United. I don't look at him and go, he's United through and through. He's just played there a long time because they paid him to. Even Ronaldo, with his confidence and ego the size of the universe, you could feel that he loved the club, though not as much as his own ambition.

A lot of people just repeat whatever they hear in the media because they're too dim to form their own view of things, others just go with the majority view because they don't want to be in the minority and fear being ridiculed for being controversial. I think that's why Rooney is getting so much animosity all of a sudden the majority view has turned and people have now realised that they've been conned by all of the clever marketing surrounding him.

I mean the other night against Liverpool he wasn't even missed and that was with Fellaini on the pitch, he's just become like some raggy old Kalvin Klein boxer shorts that you've had so long you don't want to throw them away because of the name, the good times you've had wearing them and how much they cost.

I agree I think Utd should adapt to him and they should stick with the belief that he will return to his earlier success. They should play him anywhere even if that means playing him in defence. He is the Captain and deserves his place in the team. Sign him up to a long term contract too before he leaves for USA or abroad.

That would be my dream come true but then again I don't support Utd :p
