Weak demand leads Apple to halve iPhone 5 component orders

Personally, I don't think the majority of IOS or Android handset owners are aware or even care about this debate. A consumer is a consumer - not everyone frequents forums like this and cares what is in their pocket. Nor should they have to.

If you know so much more than me, then show me some real numbers, not "your friends". Go stand outside Tesco for a week and ask every shopper will have a truer reflection on the percentage of jailbroken iPhones than asking your friends. As typically I am guessing you are 18-30, and so are your friends, so the reflection is massively skewed and flawed. You might as well take a survey in MIT and ask if they like to watch science fiction.

Ahem.

No, I'm not 18-30. Some of my friends are. I lived in a a few cities, I've been to a couple of large universities, I play in bands, I run my own business. I know a lot of people. Though I agree my sample is completely skewed, I don't have to conduct a survey for my original point to stand. Which wasn't just that geeky kids like to jailbreak so haven't bought an iPhone 5. The fact that the iPhone 5 isn't jailbroken has impacted on it's sales. Especially in China, where Apple themselves estimate that over a third of devices are jailbroken. They estimate that by comparing iDevice sales and AppStore revenue. Not by standing outside Tescos... :D

You can dismiss this if you like with your "show me the figures" attitude (like it's my job to convince you?)... I couldn't care less to be honest.

I am sure it has impact, but more like 0.01%.

No where like you made it out t be.

Righto, so a country with a population of over 1.3 billion people, where over a third of them won't buy an iPhone 5 because they can't pirate software on it impacts sales by 0.01%?

Are you even aware of what's happening in China? Why do you think companies like Land Rover are ramping up production by 30% to serve that specific market?

Do you have a source for this? I'm also dubious of your claims.

Why don't you enlighten me with at least an article of these numbers, rather than just "say".

Have to personally sampled the Chinese to get your figures? I don't need 60 million sampled, 10,000 will do.

The survey need to ask the question "did you not upgrade to the iPhone 5 purely and solely because it cannot be jailbroken".

Don't assume a population of 1.3 billion people, ask them.

And which one of those say "Chinese would not buy iPhone 5 because it cannot be jailbroken and causes Apple halved their screen order" (which btw, was FALSE).

What?

Which part of 1/3 Chinese people jailbreak their phones (there's a carrier over there that sells them jailbroken!), there's a significant number of Chinese people who buy iPhones, iPhone 5 cannot be jailbroken, doesn't result in a significant drop in sales of iPhone 5?

Apple may well have predicted this correctly, but maybe not. The 4s and iOS5 were jailbroken far more quickly.

Why not leave OP answer my question?

What is so good about a company not doing well?

My point is that you can dislike Apple because of the things that Apple do, without it having to do with anything Apple competition related.

Like, why did you choose android? He could be a Windows Phone, or Blackberry user, why assume he uses Android?

From the stuff I've read / heard on the radio about China, it's this burgeoning 20-40 age group that are lapping up "western" luxury goods.

I thought China had an aging population problem. Statistics from last year were 16 elderly people per 100 workers and this is set to rise.

Old people love IOS. ;)

I didn't assume what phone he uses, I asked if he uses android, he could say no, he could say yes. In no way I said he has an android phone. It was an open question for OP to answer.

So, you are presuming too, for 60 million people?

I don't deny it is a factor for some people, but when you assume it to be the truth on the entire Chinese iPhone users of 20 million (jb), that's when I call BS.

Aye well, these things maybe true, but they have a city dwelling new "middle class" who like nothing better than buying material possessions. They're a tiny proportion something like 0.05% of the population. But that's still 60 million people.

I honestly don't understand your logic. It's rather fatuous to describe jailbreaking as a "factor for some people" if the "some people" in question include over 1/3 of one of the largest markets on Earth. You find it BS because there's a lot of them?
