Weak demand leads Apple to halve iPhone 5 component orders

Added nothing? Oh dear. I take it you've never used it.

I guess Android has 'added nothing' too then.

My wife uses an iPhone 4 and an iPad and I have a Mac Book Pro, so I'm hardly 'anti-Apple', but neither am I a naive fan boy :p

My mobile is a Samsung Galaxy S2 - Android rocks. Pretty simple really.

Well, that's a very compelling argument...

Android is even better now than it was on the Galaxy S2 as well, so you're not particularly well placed to comment on any of the issues either way. The last time I checked a MacBook Pro didn't run iOS.

I guess you're not running 4.0 on that S2 then?! Bye bye battery life. Hello overheating.

Maps/street view was the main one for me, the native youtube app disappeared and I'm pretty sure you couldn't gift apps for a while. There were quite a few little things that others complained about too.

There was still a maps app as far as I was concerned?! That wasn't removed. It even had built in turn by turn, which iOS 5 didn't? Sure you may not like the map tiles or the data in the app, but it's still a better app in my experience.

Either way, iOS is a platform, there are 3rd party apps to suit all range of needs. I alone have 8 different mapping/travel apps installed. I'm sure anyone that cares enough about Apple v Google map tiles probably has the same.

The youtube app moving to the app store was a great move. Those that don't want it aren't forced to squirrel it away somewhere. It doesn't have to wait for an OS update before itself getting an update. Plus it was out before iOS 6 was released. If you wanted it on iOS 6 you could download it straight away.

Like what? You've gotta back statements like this up with fact.

I wouldn't say it's better than the current Google Maps app but it wasn't the horrendous disaster that many people claimed.

They went around it hunting for bugs and issues instead of just using it normally, and found a lot. Everything I've asked the native maps app to do, it has done without issue. The Google one is better though due to streetview and it's a lot nicer since the redesign.

I for one am glad that the native youtube app is gone, it's one less un-removable icon that I don't have to squirrel away in a folder. Plus, the new app is far better than the old one, and can get updates out of sync with the OS. Seems like a winner to me.

The Apple Youtube app was fairly rubbish and again, the official Google one is excellent.

The new Gmail app is great as well, as is the regular Google app for searching and so forth. All 4 important Google bases well covered. I don't think anyone uses Google+ but that's good too. :p

It this is to be believed, Apple are expected to have moved 35 million iPhone 5s. Weak demand?! Lol.

"41% increase over Q4 2011." - Still very impressive, though there must be some reason for such a huge fall it stock price. They haven't been below 500 since early 2012.

Knowing how tight lipped apple are though, we probably won't know anything until they publish their Q1 results. If the reduction in orders is due to weak demand, instead of improved yields, it won't show up until then.

Stock price is very much tied to perception as well as performance. If you get enough rumours going that Apple have halved orders for iPhone 5s due to weak demand (whether this is true or not) the stock price will be effected. This allows people to create and perpetuate vicious rumours to deliberately drive down stock prices, at which point they buy low, only to find when the company announces sales and profits, the rumours were all completely false. It's stock manipulation at its best, and it happens a lot with Apple because they are so successful.

Apple's secrecy also makes it easier to fuel these rumors, others companies would probably have confirmed/denied the false reports on the same day. Apple just stay silent until they release their Q4 numbers.

^ I understand that well enough, but the stock price fall started long before those rumours, and I don't think it can solely be attributed to such tactics. Especially considering their dubious legality.

Actually it can. A lot of people stand to make a lot of money if the price stays under a certain amount. Cue lots of rumours, and "our sources tell us" stories, that have been trickling in for the last three months and the lead up to christmas.
