I said it felt underwritten in the main film section and he seems proud of that in this interview. Fine to ‘pants’ it (AKA not have much of a prepared idea when starting to write) but he needed to go back and make it work more, in my opinion.

That is all explained in the film? Did you not watch half of it? She was Gladys, a family member of Alex (she's introduces herself as his aunt but she's clearly much older)
They all left because that is when she performed the ritual to summon them, so she could use them to stay young
What were the weapons? Well obviously the witch was controlling people and using them as weapons throughout the film. Whether that is the only meaning is up for debate but it's definitely one.
Breaking twigs, she was a witch, she was doing spells.

Don't worry there a prequel in the works that's going revolve around Aunt Gladys. Perhaps that might expand on it.

Just watched this earlier tonight, 7/10 i enjoyed it, got a bit freaky near the end though, barbarian is another good watch

A. A witch.
B. Witch weaponised people. Josh Brolin even said the Principal looked "Weaponised".
C. I thought it would be a Government experiment when JB was talking about Cell Phone towers and masts, but that died a death and they went with a witch.

Yeah, i eye rolled at the chase scene; great build up to the kids coming after her. They should have just downed her in the front garden.

Gladys said the parents weren't enough, she needed more. Whether that was their life essence or whatever, it was never explained - but does that really need explaining? We can easily draw our own inference from that.

I enjoyed this, 7/10.

The first half was great, very creepy and some very good jump scares - wifey jumped and screamed a few times and she is a horror movie veteran. The second half went a bit comical, but not as bad as some of the comments here - it still kept me interested.

I stay away from trailers, so it was nice to see Josh Brolin in this, i like him! Benedict Wong too.

What i didn't get:

Alex (poor kid!) when he snapped the twig JB immediately came around, back to normal, why didn't he go or the parents go after Glady's?

What was the significance of the rifle dream? I get it's a weapon, but that's about all i took from that. All the 'weapons' were in the house?
